Speaking from my own experience I think growing up and finding one's self identity can be a good enough reason for the difference in the way one looks, dresses up and presents themselves compared to they way they did before. I feel that she dressed and looked very much like how she was expected to (from people) before and now more according to what fits her personality best and makes her feel good and comfortable.
Again, I'm speaking from my experience alone, hers could be a whole different story.
