It surely looks like something out of the 1980s. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) comes to my mind first (but this time without apocalyptic characters ;) and action). It must be that yellow-brownish desert thing.

Wasn't ScarJo's boyfriend in Lost in Translation slightly based off Spike Jonze? If anything, Her is Spike clapping back at Coppola. It's kind of entertaining actually. Like a tennis game between to bitter exes, but instead of tennis balls, it's beautifully shot, bitter-sweet, melancholic films.

It must be that yellow-brownish desert thing. Most posters of the 80s had that style, like Indiana Jones, E.T. , etc. Netflix now has recreated the style for Strangers things. The images were mostly illustrations not photo, and things were done by hand.

Giovanni Ribisi's mannerism are quite similar to Spike's I felt. Also, Sofia did admit at one point that Spike was an inspiration (or something similar to that) for that character. But yeah, Both films are exceptional and insightful in their own special way.

I remember thinking when I saw this that if they'd put more of an emphasis on his relationship with Rooney/Amy Adams than the computer it would have been a better film. It almost felt like the opening and closing acts that focused more on his human relationships belonged to a different movie than the middle act that focused on him and the computer.
