At this point, I don't think this will be made even. Even if it does, what? Will it help Rooney's career back on track at all? She gave a beautiful performance in Women Talking just last year, so I wouldn't really say her career is off track right now though I understand where you are coming from. As for this movie helping her career: Artistically? there is every possibility. Pawel Pawlikowski is definitely a filmmaker to work with. If we are talking mainstream/awards appreciation, chances are low. Pawlikovsky is not a problem. On the contrary, he is the one that gives me a hope for this. Oscars can go fck themselves, their lousy taste in movies also. They are not important. I'm more annoyed that this is another Joaquin-Rooney collaboration which likely will go nowhere. Everyone here knows that Joaquin is my favorite Hollywood actor currently working for the past 11 years or more. But at the same time I think Rooney working so many times with him is wrong path for her career. For me they feel like Joaquin movies with Rooney as guest in them. She is too good and talented to be relegated to that (or at least she was before 2017). I don't think movies such as this will make any step forward to her career. What she needs is another kind of projects. The ones where she carries entire film on her shoulders. A House in the Skye, Vox Lux and Audrey were supposed to be that projects. I didn't had this Rooney-Joaquin problem before. Idk, now I just can't get excited enough for their movies. No enhusiasm. She needs another approach in her career urgently. I'm also not a fan of projects where she is just part of big ensemble cast (Nightmare Alley, Women Talking). It's almost like she is hiding in these. I predict 'The Island' will be made but get only mediocre to good reviews. 'Polaris' won't be made at all. What do you think about this, Red?

It has certainly been a while since we've seen her carry a film on her own and given her talent she should be doing that more. But we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. I know this is the wrong thread to talk about the Hepburn project, but I wonder how much of what happened has got to do with money. Rooney was never really a B.O. person and whatever little visibility she has had in the past has only been fading cuz she's not been working as much. So I wouldn't be surprised if it is the producers/studios who are coming in the way of her playing bigger roles, including Hepburn. (Who was backing that project btw?) As a fan I would obviously like to see her do more, but I respect her decision to take her time. She has always walked her own path and I doubt she changes that for anyone, unfortunately it is this which she will likely pay a price for sometimes.

She has always walked her own path and I doubt she changes that for anyone, unfortunately it is this which she will likely pay a price for sometimes. Most actors/actresses have crisis at least once in their careers and that's normal. But when it comes to Rooney this is really LONG - from 2017 to this day. It doesn't help that TWC collapsed in 2017 so she doesn't have big studio behind her. Does she have even agent right now? I wouldn't be surprised if that's not the case. We know about Vox Lux and her problem with producers/studios about not being lead actress material. Was it the same problem for the other two? We don't know. But even if it true, where are these strong supporting performances? She needs supporting nomination or Oscar urgently (not because Oscars have any artistic merit but because it would be strong injection to move her career up). Nightmare Alley and Women Talking were disappointments in that matter. Something is definitely off with Rooney all these years. She just doesn't seem very interested anymore (or enough). Too many abandoned projects give me "Yeah... whatever" vibe. Being a mother is definitely not a main (only) reason because this started long before. And it seems there is too much comfort zone in her choices. She mainly works with familiar people and not challenging herself enough. If she is not interested in acting that much anymore and if all that had become forced for her maybe she needs to quit it. And then we to move on. Because, what else? Movies are the main reason we became fans, not her being mom or activist. We had her movies before and that was enough but now? Two-three photos of her and only if we are lucky.
