I like the tone of his voice. In that movie 10 years he has an scene with Kate and another ex from her, it seems Kate keeps them all exes as friend :) . |

I watched The Talented Mr Ripley just the other week.My God,what an incredible film and the cast was unreal.Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth, Cate , Phillip C Hoffman and none of them were really stars at that point.How Matt Damon didn`t get an Oscar nom is beyond me because he has never been better. |

I watched The Talented Mr Ripley just the other week.My God,what an incredible film and the cast was unreal.Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth, Cate , Phillip C Hoffman and none of them were really stars at that point.How Matt Damon didn`t get an Oscar nom is beyond me because he has never been better.
Agreed ! It's one of my favorite movies ever; they were all so young back then. Damon was fantastic and it's his best (and very underrated) performance in my opinion. Jude deserved to win Supporting Actor and the others were great too (Jack Davenport also). Entire cast was perfect. I remember Gwyneth was really the only big star at that time, she was fresh Oscar winner and America's "sweetheart".
Strange, The Talented Mr. Ripley is generally underrated among mainstream audiences but whenever I ask someone about this movie everyone loves it.
(If you loved this movie try Purple Noon (1960) directed by Rene Clement. It's French adaptation of the same Patricia Highsmith's novel and Alain Delon is terrific as Ripley.)
