I`m a bit underwhelmed by this years line up tbh. There`s nothing I`m all that excited about. Me too, except for Cate, she could be one reason to follow this. Looks like Thierry may be digging a hole for Cannes in the U.S. market, Netflicks, his comment of release timing and the “me too” comments seemed a little negative to me. Though once it gets started it’s always a fun ‘horse race’ for the Palme and other awards. I am not giving up yet, I typically feel this way unless Rooney or one of my other favorites is in competition, which is normally not the case. Charles

I`m not that excited about the line up this year although I am intrigued to see how Black Klansman and Under The Silver Lake are received. Most directors are wisely saving their films for Toronto/Venice or Telluride to give them a better shot come Oscar time. :smile2:

You maybe right, particularly U.S. films are not present. I am looking forward to see if a female finally gets a second Palme. Never a better chance than with Cate as Pres. Not sure I know who attending might be. Maybe, Isabelle, you can normally count on her having several films, and she has made a big mark at the festival. Charles

Cannes is so lacklustre this year. They need to modernize and let Netflix films back into the fold. Agree, though not sure Netflix is the whole answer. No U.S. Films with real potential are in competition, though I guess the new Star Wars movie could work, but even it is a long way from what Cannes needs to really work for me. Unfortunately with the remodeled house thanks to hurricane Harvey, I am staying really busy with it and not so much Cannes. But that considered, I wanted to get through the first weekend, look at what the critics had to say, and dig in the best I can. Not having an active Rooney also makes a difference. Let me know if you see something that is of interest. Charles

Predictably, Von Trier`s The House That Jack Built has generated huge controversy BlacKkKlansman sounds like a blast and a real return to form for Spike Lee.Under The Silver Lake has been getting really mixed reviews, some people saying it reminds them of Southland Tales.Absolutely no idea who might win the Palme this year.
