Watched a couple of films over the weekend. The first was Beautiful Boy which was ok.It was bit grimm and formulaic but Timothee Chalamet was great in it.I just can't take Steve Carrell seriously in dramatic roles though, and he's a bit out of his depth here.6/10.The second was Bad times at the El Royale which was pretty good. It's kind of a love letter to film noir and the cast is amazing.Cynthia Ervino and Jeff Bridges in particular, are excellent.Even Chris Hemsworth gives a good performance.8/10.

Went to see Glass over the weekend. This film was one of my most anticipated of 2019 so I was really hoping that the reviews were wrong but they were kinda right. It's not the disaster some people are calling it but neither is it the great film I was hoping for and that's what's so frustrating. It COULD'VE been great and in the end it was merely ok.The best thing about it was James Mcavoy's performance,it's worth checking out just for that.6/10.

I haven't been posting in here for a bit but I'll mention some of the movies I watched that I haven't reviewed.
Love, Simon was a cheesy but entertaining teen romantic comedy which I liked quite a bit.
Cold War had a lot of great things to it with the direction and acting but the romance just didn't work for me, rendering the whole experience kind of underwhelming. With this and Call Me By Your Name, it really shows that even if a romance movie has great acting, direction and all of that, it won't fully work if the romance doesn't work. Good movie but I didn't love it like I wanted to.
Boy Erased is a mixed bag, acting is great, but some of the decisions made were really questionable, whether it be with the writing or direction (even though the direction was good for what it was aiming to be).
Burning is a long slow burn but is well directed and acted (especially from Steven Yeun). It does get better the more I think about it.

Recently watched Can You Ever Forgive Me which was pretty good.Melissa McCarthy was great in it,she deserves that Oscar nomination, but Richard E Grant was, if anything, even better. 8/10.Also watched Robin Hood (2018) which was diabolical, one of the worst films I've ever seen 1/10.

If you want to watch a really good bad movie, check out Polar(netflix).Mads Mikkelson plays a hitman and it's totally batshit but highly entertaining.7/10.

It's been a while since I've posted here, I'll post my thoughts on some of the more recent movies I've seen.
- Not to put movies against each other but Colette is like the LGBT, British period piece and better version of The Wife. It was well directed, entertaining and performances were great, particularly from Keira Knightley and Dominic West.
- I saw Resident Evil Apocalypse, Extinction and Afterlife. All 3 are silly video game movies but some are better than others. Apocalypse wasn't directed well and wasn't good, albeit unintentionally entertaining and funny at times, so far the worst of the series 5/10. Extinction is the best of the series, with it being quite creative with it's setting and action scenes. 6/10. Afterlife has some really entertaining action scenes even though it's blatantly trying to be like The Matrix. There's not much else that the movie offers but it was still fun to watch. 6/10
- I saw Irreversible and Enter the Void in prep for Gaspar Noe's Climax. I'm not easily unnerved or disturbed by a movie but Irreversible really got to me, really good movie. Enter the Void was very trippy and I liked it but it was a bit overlong and there were parts of the movie that I didn't completely get. 9/10
- Captain Fantastic was really good and Viggo Mortensen gave a great performance. 9/10
- Finally saw Kramer vs Kramer and it was really good, Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep were great and I can sort of see why it won Best Picture. 9/10
- I don't know why it took me this long to see Blazing Saddles it was hilarious and I really liked it. 9/10
- The People vs Larry Flynt was really good and features Woody Harrelson's best performance to date. 8/10
- Punisher War Zone was a very silly and over the top violent comic book movie that I had fun with even if it wasn't very good. 6/10
- My Week with Marilyn was decent but the performances made it worth watching, especially from Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh. 8/10
- Hanna is actually one of my fave Joe Wright movies, I was surprised to see that it was him directing, he can actually make a good action movie. Performances by Saoirse Ronan and Cate Blanchett were also really good. 9/10
- Destroyer was a pretty standard crime thriller with a script that could've been better but the performances (especially from Nicole Kidman) and the direction elevated it a little bit. 7/10

I saw Beautiful Boy and I agree Chamalet is great and Carrell pretty awful. The movie could be much better with a better script. It’s the guy of Lion...

Finally got around to watching Eighth Grade and oh my God I LOVED it.What an incredible film,it's the most realistic depiction I've ever seen of what it's like to be a 13yr old girl.Elsie Fisher is truly brilliant in it,her character literally made my heart ache.10/10.Also watched Mary Queen of Scots which I liked a lot. It's a really solid, if not historically accurate, biopic, a good film rather than a great one.Nicely directed and the performances are really great, Saoirse is excellent but Margot is even better.8/10.

Watched Serenity a couple of days ago and it is by far the most batshit film I have ever seen. For the life of me I can't understand how Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey read this script and said 'yep,I'm in'.Inexplicably bad.0/10.

Watched a couple of films recently, the first and best was Leave No Trace, which I really liked. It's beautifully shot and acted, Thomasin McKenzie is a major find and I really wish Deborah Granik had landed a best director nom.10/10.The second was Mary Poppins Returns, which I really didn't like.It had none of the magic of the original, the songs were forgettable and Emily Blunt's exaggerated English accent was just too much.5/10.
