Doesn`t have to be a theatrical release.Mine was Mission impossible Fallout.I`m a big fan of the MI films and I loved Rogue Nation and Ghost Protocol, but this was by far the best of the series in my opinion. It reminded me a lot of Skyfall and the Dark Knight and it`s probably the best action film since Mad Max Fury Road.

The Rider. Very good. I really liked the way it is directed. I also saw On Cesil Beach and I think it's disappointing without being bad

I'm watching Fallout tonight, I can't wait. I rewatched the movies not too long ago and after 2, each film is better than the last and hearing that Fallout is the best in the series really gets me hyped. And hearing the comparisons to Mad Max Fury Road and The Dark Knight just gets me even more hyped.
The last movie I watched was Following, the first ever film by Christopher Nolan. I'm a big fan of his films and although it's clearly his worst and doesn't contain the elements that make his movies so great, it's still a solid enough movie for a lower budgeted film. It's only like over an hour long so it's worth checking out.

I had an enjoyable rewatch of A History of Violence and Eastern Promises these days. Seriously, Viggo is one of the most underutilized actors in Hollywood. He could be perfect leading man for Fincher. Too bad it didn't happen 10 or 15 years ago.
In theater:
Beirut. It was solid but nothing special or memorable. Rosamund and Hamm were good.
Mary Shelley. Despite not-so-god reviews I was interested in the subject. Actually liked it more than I thought I would but expected something more non-conventional. Elle is miscast in the role (too modern looking for 1810s).

Watched Game Night over the weekend and LOVED it.Easily one of the best comedies of the last few years.Jesse Plemmons in particular was hilarious, the kind of performance that would get an Oscar nomination if there was any justice.

Last night I watched Magnolia for the first time, I think it's one of Paul Thomas Anderson's best films. Some plotlines are better than others, and some characters aren't as strong or as interesting as others but most of it really works. The performances are the highlights, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Julianne Moore and Tom Cruise are the highlights, Cruise particularly gave an Oscar Winning performance (and he should've won). There are some odd decisions made but I loved the vast majority of the movie.

Re-watched Roman Holiday a week ago after a long time. That ending still gets to me.

Agreed. It's his best performance ever in my opinion and deserved supporting award. He was in two best films of the year - Eyes Wide Shut and Magnolia, it was peak of his career (when it comes to "prestigious" films) and after that, he never come close to win Oscar although he was still occasionally very good (Collateral). Today, I doubt he care anymore.
Speaking of Magnolia, I think Julianne Moore's performance, while not bad, was the weakest of the main cast (she overplays a bit). For me, highlights were Cruise, PSH, Melora Walters and Jason Robards in his last role. Great movie. Feels a little bloated at times and there are some slightly awkward scenes here and there but still excellent and never boring.

Same here. The whole movie has that light, funny, cute romantic feel and then - the ending. Utterly realistic and bittersweet.
I like this description (from some movie book) of RH ending:
Audrey's face at the end
