So, I have read The Silent Patient in the last couple of days . It starts somewhat slow but it becomes more and more tense with each chapter. And that twist at the end...whoa...definitely didn't see that coming (everyone who has read it knows what I'm talking about). You feel a little sad for Alicia's fate after reading.
It was enjoyable read but I'm not sure if it will make a successful movie adaptation - they'll need to use a lot of flashbacks and that's not always a good solution. As I said before, Rooney would be perfect for the part; her age is about right (in flashbacks she is 33, in present time 39 - she doesn't need to be slightly aged, just to look more pale, more detached and it would be enough (think of Emily Taylor from Side Effects only without talking - and in one scene we have wild "Lisbeth Salander" moment). On the other hand, they'll need lead actor in his late 30s/early 40s (think who that might be) and probably, the setting will be moved from London to USA (for Hollywood reasons) but it won't hurt the plot at all.
Anyway, we only have that one tweet (which doesn't promise much really) about Rooney's possible participation in this project but whatever happens I'm looking forward to this adaptation.
And high recommendation for the read.

Main character is Alicia's psychologist, not husband. I can see Colin Farrell, Michael Fassbender or Tom Hiddleston playing the part easily.
For some of the crucial supporting roles - Claire Foy (psychologist's wife), Brian Cox (doctor, head of the mental institution), Matthew Goode (as Alicia's husband) and Matthias Schoenaerts (as Alicia's friend, the gallery owner).
If Rooney isn't available, I wish Mia Wasikowska in the role. She would be great too.

Do you remember when Rooney said she had the Spider Web book at home, but wouldn't read it until she was sure she would play the role? That gives me hope with this. I mean, if she is reading it ...And she’s perfect for it .... *fingers crossed* I want to Rooney to work with Matthias Schoenaerts and Fassbender (again) so bad. Colin Farrell would give some Killing Sacred Deer vibes <3

Yeah, that might be a good sign; and the Annapurna involvement gives me little hope also.

And high recommendation for the read. I have read The Silent Patient and OMG. I didn't see that coming either. So good book in its genre. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation. You already said everything and your cast is great, especially Claire Foy. Rooney is perfect not only for silence but also for her natural magnetism and stillness. I will be sad if she doesn't get it but at least I already saw the movie in my mind. :) Theo is gold for any good actor. Maybe Fassbender is too handsome and Pitt too old? But I want someone commercial to not suffer with financing issues. I think Rooney should be delighted with the book because its plot represents her style in more ways than one.

Nice to hear you enjoyed the book. Yeah, for every Alicia scene I had Rooney's face on my mind.
Pitt is definitely old for the role. And for commercialism - I'm afraid that the lead actress, not lead actor - will be the one on the "bankable" side. In that case, Rooney will have small chance to get the role (if we assume that she wants it).
Do you think that, for the movie, they'll change setting from UK to USA ? I'm almost always against it but in this case it wouldn't hurt the plot at all.

Probably because Kathy is a theater actress <3 I thought New York would be perfect. Rooney has a plus about it too: her natural royalty in the city :) Did you see someone besides Fincher on it?
