The Galas are just bigger red carpets because they know they're going to have a lot of big names walking it. The Special Presentations are actually the ones that tend to attract the most awards interest.
The full TIFF line-up actually hasn't been announced yet. They won't be finished adding titles for almost a month.

The New York Film Festival line up is interesting.Last Flag Flying by Richard Linklater is opening,Centerpiece Gala is Wonderstruck and Wonder Wheel (Woody Allen)is closing.No MM which is not surprising, I don`t think anyone thought it would premiere here.  |

Thanks Lara, I have added a new NYFF thread. It's looking like TWC is skipping festivals for MM, at least so far. Telluride is still a possibility, so we can keep our fingers crossed. Maybe since this is a religion based movie (though maybe not religious per se) they are taking a different tack. But let's wait for Telluride before going out on a limb. Charles |

OK so now we know based on recent releases, that MM is scheduled for a March 2018 release in the U.S. So how about the Berlin FF in February?
Actually in hind sight, maybe moving MM will work out better for Rooney since having UNA and MM coming out at the same time may not make sense to the viewing public, at least in the U.S. It might appear that her role choices were schizophrenic.
Some times what appears to be a bad outcome works out for the best.

Charles Berlin would make perfect sense given the new release date.It`s not as high profile as Cannes or Toronto but it`s still a very prestigious festival.It will almost certainly end up here. |

May well be a contender, people seem to love this.The best actor category is so weak this year that Franco probably has a good shot at a nomination for that too. |
