After reading majority of ballots by Academy members available online - there's no way EEAAO will lose Best Actress.
Some of them say stuff like Cate's performance was best or great or their favorite of the year but they voted for Yeoh anyway because Cate already has two and also because WOC hasn't won for 20 years.
Yeah...I sometimes wonder why I'm vasting my time and still care about this cringe ceremony which had lost any integrity long time ago. Maybe because I'm waiting Rooney to win one and be recognized for more than ten years now but that perhaps isn't much good idea after all (can you imagine her being in Cate's place or similar ? Twitter hooligans would ripped her apart mercilessly for months). Maybe it's the time for me to finally give up on Oscars after Sunday? I know that some of you already did long time ago.
If you're fan of Yeoh and think she deserves it for giving better performance that's perfectly Ok. Enjoy the moment. Nothing against her really - in many other years I'd actually support her. Just think that her "narrative" is very forced this season. It somehow seems entitled. I've never seen Oscar campaign that has so little related to acting.

I haven't seen Everything Everywhere yet, but every year come awards season the conversation around the lack of meritocracy heats up. It's pointless and will remain pointless as long as these award shows, specifically the Oscars, act as popularity contests and there is inequality within the academy and the entire industry. When the academy and other awards bodies place importance on box office numbers and big studio backings, can we really talk about merit? And without equal opportunity, can there be true meritocracy? Better to resign yourself to the fact that these awards were never truly about merit. And if you plan on watching it, watch it for the cringe-fest it is and nothing more. P.S.: With the younger gen's lack of interest in these awards shows, it all might just die out soon.

It just doesn't belong in this time anymore. Maybe it will happen in a few years...just on the 100. aniversary.

EEAAO wins 7 Oscars, all in main categories (three acting ones at that. A Streetcar Named Desire level).
TAR and Banshees = zero Oscars.
Yes...they've actually done this.
Congrats to Sarah Polley, anyway.
Donkey on stage was the best part. Cute animal. ๐

It was lovely to see her there supporting Sarah.

Didn't pay much attention and saw Rooney tonight only for two seconds so I might be wrong but it might be mix of that and red cropped jacket she wore once, on some red carpet. Google Rooney Mara cropped jacket and you'll see it (in red). Which exactly event was that? I thought it was Toronto 2016 but it's not. I could swear Rooney had something red on herself when she hugged Sarah. And I wasn't drunk. ๐

She was already dressed for after-party. Can't believe seven years passed since Carol awards season.

If I'm on Cate's place I'd just come to Europe or UK for a couple of years. To work with Almodovar and some other European heavyweights and in the meantime maybe winning Cannes, Venice, Berlin etc. And why not? Here in Europe they make better movies (for grown-ups at least) than in Hollywood right now. Adult, intelligent and demanding movies like TAR would be more respected than in USA.
Not only Cate but every actress and actor who I love, including, of course, Rooney and Joaquin.
USA is something else...

TAR is a mix between Haneke and good Polanski in a a way. The face of Todd Field when Daniels won Best Director said it all.
