Lion (2016)

Kidman grabs the central focus of the story as the more distraught of the two. The performance is riveting because she essentially plays the entire film at two levels, the surface everyday life and then what is turning over and over again in her mind.

For almost 45 minutes the film is spoken in Hindi and somewhat in Bengali, which are the two official languages ​​of India. "Lion" acquires a certain documentary tone, by the looks of the children
, the horror of the crowd and the sound of the city. Saroo will have intuition to flee from the perverse adults and will learn to conserve what little he has: a cardboard and a spoon. He will also learn to feel nostalgia for his protective brother and to take care of his first memories: his mother, the butterflies, a water tower or the jalebi and its sweetness.



What comes next is almost an intermediate, because it is the opposite: fast and succinct. Adoption and travel to Tasmania in 1987, where he is married to Sue (Nicole Kidman) and John Brierley (David Wenham). In 1988, the child learns cricket. In this period there is another appearance, brief and lateral, because it is a secondary character that appears to pieces. The Brierleys, in addition to Saroo, decide to adopt another child: Mantosh.

The film sketches the character and gives it a couple of parliaments, but its only choice is by Saroo Brierley, the adapted, installed and protagonist of a story with an encouraging and tearful destiny, which only needs one thing: find its place in the India and I will ever go back.


Earth is big, but there is no room for everyone.

The decision to release the extended version on April 10 has been driven by teenage girls, who have been returning to cinemas to watch the Oscar-nominated, heart-wrenching Australian movie over and over again.

The extra footage will include two new scenes that explore more of the relationship between the grown up Saroo (Dev Patel) and his girlfriend Lucy (Rooney Mara).

“A young audience has embraced this film in a way that we weren’t expecting, particularly a teenage female audience,” said film distributor Andrew Mackie of Transmission Films.

“There is exhibition feedback of repeat viewings, particularly in that demographic.

“People are returning to see it again, two, three and four times.”
