It was a good and moving film. Once I got over the fact that an european/irish decent was portraying a middle-eastern woman I could enjoy the story.
After that Rooney was great as always. Overall I'm satisfied, but I think that Rooney shouldn't continue with Garth Davis, at least she should find another project before she's making House with Garth. He's good making touching characters, but he's lacking some punch. But I'm happy that Rooney has a very good relationship with him. Rooney was even in the thanks section in the end credits.
I had high expectations on the cinematography... and it was somewhat disappointing. Technically it was beautiful, but unimaginative.
Soundtrack has more potential. I find it moving that this was the last work of Johann Johannsson.

I know what you mean about Garth, but i don’t blame her though, everybody wants to work with good people. Hope she works soon with a female director.

I saw the film this weekend in Amsterdam. Overall, I have to say it's a nice film, they show a different story about Mary Magdalene, so I was already happy about that. The first half is very much about Mary, while second focuses a lot in Jesus and their relationship (maybe too much). So the second half it's a bit worse.
Rooney is incredible during the film. There's a lot of conviction in her acting and "truth" (if you can say that). She really carries the film on her shoulders, and did a wonderful job. Joaquin is great as Jesus. He makes him more human, which fits the whole vibe of the film very well. It's more the spiritual journey of a group of people than a typical biblical drama. There's a lot of feeling, and emotion put into it, so you can see Garth's work there.
I was quite happy with the film. It's not the best film starring Rooney, but I think they can be proud of their work. So it could be a 8/10 in general, I would say!

Anybody here has seen it? thoughts? I saw Mary Magdalene and Rooney is amazing on it. It's a deep, beautiful and subtle performance and one thing I like about Garth's direction is that the rest of the actors are in the same tone and subtlety (he achieves the same in Lion). It is a film of good heart, small and solemn. It is about people and their beliefs more than about biblical figures. I like that. It has several visual connections with Lion. The score is great. Regarding House in the Sky I think it still remains to see what Garth does with a great script. In his two films he has given something special to an average script. I think it's different when the script is spectacular in itself. Or I hope so. He also needs another DP. One darker and riskier

Also I think bad reviews are unfair. In some way they criticize the film for not being epic or as they expected it to be. If you watch the movie for what it is, you will see a good story of beliefs and searches. A story calm but deepened by the performances of Rooney and Joaquin. Both make their characters human and sensitive and it is worth seeing in the cinema. It's a humanistic story which is a risk and not for everyone...The DP and costume design are good too. It’s just a small story about people that believe in a better world in different ways...
