Cannes line up gets revealed on Thursday (April 13). Any predictions if it'll make it or not? Or better off for fall festival? Agree that it would be unlikely for MM to be at Cannes, Teluride & Tiff make more sense to me. On the other hand Cannes is not that far from where it was shot, and as a result could maybe get some buzz and a friendly place to premier. In any event it is fun to pick your Cannes favorites and see how the do. Also finding out which at the hottest International films is cool as well. Charles

Also, if Harvey will have his showcase in Cannes (though TWC might not afford it) we might get reactions to first footage of MM. But i think "A Ghost Story" might make it to UCR line-up.

I could see A Ghost Story getting selected for the critics section of Cannes (apologies, I forgot what that's called) just like Ain't Them Bodies Saints did.

I think the only TWC movie that could be premiered is 'Current Wars', kind of like 'Carol' with 'Lion' in the back. MM will be 2017 for sure. Maybe Lowery's 'A Ghost Story' though.
Of the 2016 Cannes movies, that I still want to see are BFG (Netfiix currently), 'Elle' and 'Toni Erdman'. Maybe there are more.
Should we start a 'Cannes 2017' thread in the Film Festivals section to discuss anything that suits our interests?
Unlikely that Rooney's stuff will be in play though, except long shot 'Ghost' in UCR.

I think Rooney has a very good chance of landing an Oscar nomination if not a win for this,Joaquin too.MM is such an iconic role, I`d be really surprised if she wasn`t at least in the hunt come awards season. :cheerleading:

Given the November release date by TWC it seems likely : And the fact that A24 is behind A Ghost Story (together with critics support) leads me to believe about Supporting Actress nomination also (we have to be ready for disappointment when it comes to AGS big awards chances but we are lying ourselves if we say that we don't think about possible double nomination for Roon - at least a little).
Well, what will be will be. The most important thing is that AGS is already on the way to become one of the best movies of the year (if not the best) and Mary Magdalene has great chance too. Another great year to be Rooney fan

OK, just finished posting a new '2017 Cannes Film Festival' thread with links to 2015 Carol entries, as examples, for those that may not be familiar with the website. It is in the Film Festival Folder in the General section. Charles

i don't want to be a party pooper, but i don't recall a specific emphasis on Rooney's performance in AGS, in all reviews i've read, the main focus was always on the movie itself, not on the actors, in Casey's case it's obvious why, but as for Rooney, there wasn't much reviewers attention on her acting either (apart from that pie eating scene). i hope i'm wrong, but i don't have high expectations regarding awards here.

Thanks Red, You and the other posters have done such a wonderful job keeping everything so well organized, way much better than the old IMDB boards, that I didn't want to screw up what is working so well, by just putting something out there that may not fit into the way you have this organized. (I didn't know I could write a sentence with that many words, or maybe it's not a sentence).
Thanks for your work here, Red, it is really appreciated!

Pie scene is enough ;) perhaps, especially if one of the highlights of the movie and it's five minutes long (or more ?). Look at Judi Dench winning for Shakespeare in Love in 1998. You can find more examples in the history of Oscars.
Even if this does not work (and probably won't), AGS should be of much help for eventual MM nomination. Maybe crucial if Oscar voters are undecided when the time comes.
But do not underestimate A24... Mahershala deservedly won for 10-15 minutes screen time this year.

Speaking of Moonlight, when are you going to give it that re-watch you were going supposed to...
