To be honest, I love Rooney and all, but Saoirse was born to play that role in Brooklyn. {Spoiler!}I'm about to get dragged :nervous:
With this and the Dolan thing, you've become a mess horrorstoryfanfan {Spoiler!} I agree she was brilliant in it, and I wouldn't change it. Wish the film was just a great as her though.

I know, I'm getting sloppy. My gay heart can't stop that Dolan crush though. {Spoiler!}She definitely should've won a Golden Globe, she was fantastic in that film
{Spoiler!}She should've won the Oscar {Spoiler!}I hope Cate fans don't murder me :nervous:

I agree.Saoirse was perfect in Brooklyn and as much as I love Rooney,I actually don`t think she could`ve bettered that performance. .On a side note Saoirse`s name is an absolute biatch to spell.

She had to drop out of Brooklyn too, which must`ve hurt a bit considering how well it was received and Saoirse`s Oscar nom.Although getting one for Carol probably made up for it.Agree with all the comments about Utopia too.I was obsessed with it when it aired in the UK.It would`ve been the perfect project for Fincher and Rooney. :-/
In the end everything turned out fine for everyone. Saoirse is ideal Eilis Lacey and Rooney was born to play Therese Belivet - both cases of perfect casting, and both worthy of Oscar (don't forget - Rooney won Best Actress in Cannes also :queen: ; she's now member of that prestigious group of actors and actresses).
Brooklyn is nice crowd-pleaser, Carol is more like precious work of art. One was Sundance darling, the other was Cannes sensation. If we talk about overall quality of both films, Carol is a winner, no question. It's interesting that both films are set in New York 1952 and Eilis and Therese both have jobs in department stores. As you know, John Crowley was attached once to direct Carol but I'm glad it was Todd in the end who got the chance to direct the finest film of his career.
