I would love to see Rooney make a British period drama, something like Elizabeth or that Mary Queen Of Scots film that Margot Robbie is making. Her English accent is pretty decent and those are the type of roles that win awards.I bet Margot and Saoirse both get Oscar noms next year.

No offence but period pieces just feels repetitive and boring after a point, especially the ones surrounding the Monarchy or the White House (I don't mean to sound racist), there's only so much I can take of rich white folks whining. I'd prefer a simple dark comedy, something 'Ed Wood' like. or a dramedy, something in the veins of what Noah Baumbach and Alexander Payne make, or a musical. Not only something that she hasn't done before, but also something nobody ever thought she could do. She has been proving people wrong, I want her to continue to do that.

I agree that period films can be a bit samey,I mean there are two oscar baity films about Winston Churchill this year alone. But there are exceptions, a role like Elizabeth made Cate`s career and it was a genuinely great film. If she really wanted to mix it up she should do a comedy, maybe a Woody Allen film or something.

4-5 years ago I also thought that Mary, Queen of Scots would be a nice role for her. It's a larger-than-life true story and Rooney certainly has a right physiognomy for historical drama and strong female characters; it would be challenging and interesting take in her career, for sure. But now...idk ; I agree with what RedSparrow said above. And Rooney doesn't strike me like someone who is especially interested in this kind of projects.
Anyway, for the role of Mary she needs to pull off French accent rather than Scottish; not sure if this would be convincing enough. French actress should've been cast instead of Saoirse.

(1964) Which part ? Maxine (Ava Gardner) or Hannah (Deborah Kerr) ? I agree, Rooney would be perfect for some of Tennessee Williams' play adaptations on stage (or movie).

She said earlier this year that she wants to do a play and had been reading scripts but that thought of being on stage `terrified`her.I`d love to see her do theatre, preferably in the West End. :clap1:

i have no idea! Hanna i guess? Bette Davis played Maxine on Broadway, so someone as big and legendary as Davis opposite Roons? it would be amazing i wonder if she'll ever decide to do a play..

I want Rooney in something conversational like Kenneth Lonegan, Richard Linklater or Noah Baumbach and in a film with any European filmmaker
I know she has not chosen projects yet but I think she has not been offered one on her list of directors either. I doubt she would reject a bad script by a famous director

I doubt she would reject a bad script by a famous director Yay for Richard Linklater, what is it taking so long for them to do something together :confuse: . David Lowery and Rooney could make an extra movie each time they make a movie to merge it later like Boyhood. I'm secretly hoping they've been doing that secretly :D .

I'd love to see Rooney explore international films a little more. She's worked in Australia and the UK, and there's a lot of great material and talent coming out of both. Not just that, but perhaps take a few risks in terms of the genre work that she's been doing. I love her in drama as much as anyone else does, but I think it would really show her range to see her in something lighter, or even a psychological thriller.
Chan-wook Park, Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion, Cate Shortland, Denis Villeneuve, Jason Reitman, Jonathan Glazer, Lars von Trier (imagine Rooney in a Melancholia-type role), Antonio Campos... Rooney with any of those could only create magic.
