An article in THR said that both Beautiful Boy and If Beale Street Could Talk were 'snubbed' by Venice which is interesting if true.IBSCT would probably be considered a big Oscar prospect given that it`s Jenkin's follow up to Moonlight, so I don`t know if this is a reflection of it's quality. Well, they are both in Toronto which may or may not have been their choice. Charles

It seems to me that many of the best pictures have been starting in Venice, making big waves there, and excelling in Toronto and else where.

C True.Venice is usually a pretty good indicator of which films will end up dominating awards season,La La Land and The Shape Of Water being two examples. And given that First Man is opening the festival, it must be considered a strong prospect come awards time.

One film that no one seems to be talking about is The Nightingale by Jennifer Kent.I was a huge fan of The Babadook and I'm thinking this could be the dark horse of the competition.

Really nice, i can not miss this one, love how different his movies are. The first time i saw a movie of him was a Little princess which i loved it and then years later i knew i've seen a younger Davos Seaworthy somewhere.

Just 2 more days until the festival starts so time for some predictions.I think Roma,The Nightingale,Suspiria and The Favourite will be the most critically acclaimed, with Roma going on to win The Golden Lion.Vox Lux,First Man and The Sister Brothers will be the disappointments.

I don’t see anything that sticks out to me.
Certainly I must be wrong, as lots of good stuff comes out of Venice.
For me it is wait and see.

I loved the Roma trailer, a little more than a month to watch it on Netflix :) had no idea The Nightingale was made into a movie. Visually i like the trailers of Werk Ohne Autor and Peterloo. The sister brothers doesn’t look like a festival movie right? do people in Europe like cowboy movies? I think Joaquin looks really good though.
