Saw The Dark Crystal for the first time to prepare for the series whenever I see it, story and characters are a bit eh, including some of the way they handled the lore. However it's still groundbreaking for its time and I liked it.
I saw Killer's Kiss because it was one of Stanley Kubrick's first movies, and I guess it's okay. Story is whatever and acting is meh, but Kubrick directed this really well.
Reviews of Dragged Across Concrete and In Fabric are coming, but briefly, I really liked DAC, very gritty and brutal, well directed and acted. Will have to see Zahler's other movies. In Fabric is quite a good slow burn horror for the first half, however the second act really brought the entire movie down unfortunately.

Just watched Joe Wright's 'Anna Karenina' for the first time yesterday. I have yet to read the book, but I loved the movie. I really liked how the film was shot like it was a play.
All the actors were on point. Alicia Vikander, I felt was the weakest in the ensemble, though she does fare better in the third act of the film.
I think Keira Knightley as an actress is misunderstood by most people. I remember when the film first came out everyone had their knives out. Manohla Dargis (in an interview with A.O. Scott) said that she never understood Keira as an actress (Scott disagreed with her). There was a time when I would've agreed with Manohla, but I somehow feel differently today. Keira's range as an actress may be a limited one, but she works really well within those limits and I appreciate that.
My personal favorite performance of hers will always be from 'Pride & Prejudice'.

Went to see Ad Astra on Friday, some of the scenes are visually striking. It's a really slow movie, I was falling asleep. Brad Pitt performance is just ok in my opinion, not the point of predicting him as a best actor candidate for the Oscars.
Take care of the planet, outer space seems very boring.

Ad Astra is very Malick-ish in reverse so it’s not your thing, which is obviously understandable... I loved it because I’m weird. Its “message” resonated with me and Hoyte van Hoytema is my hero...I agree about Pitt. Joaquin probably introduced Liv Tyler to James Gray so hopes for Rooney to work with him someday :)

And this movie was the only one i thought was good in the nearest theatre, the ones that i want to see start this month. it didn’t help that it was Friday.

So I saw Hereditary. First half was compelling, but I hated the second half to the point where it even went onto ruin the first half for me.
What is up with all these illuminati references/symbols in Ari Aster's movies?

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here (or watched some movies since I’m busy with exams right now) so I’ll just post the more recent movies i saw.
Saw Candyman for the first time, really liked it, the score particularly stood out and Tony Todd was perfect as Candyman.
Rewatched The Shining, liked it even more on a second viewing.

Weeks ago I saw Pablo Larraín’s EMA and I like it a lot. It’s not perfect but it’s really interesting in so many ways. What a filmography Pablo has!

Saw Marriage Story. Floored me. I hope Noah finally receives the recognition he deserves from the academy.

Finally got around to seeing ‘Judy’. Generally agree that Renee Z is one you would have to beat out for a Oscar. Her intensity, was very similar to Rooney’s Dragon Tattoo. I understand that she stayed in character the entirety of the filming process, and that dedication showed.
By intensity, I think of total commitment to the role in every way. Renee was not at all like Lisbeth S. But at times reminds me of Katherine Hepburn with her presence. Rooney has a softer no words can describe presence, maybe that is why she doesn’t always need dialog to be great!
Where I disagreed with some reviews, I did not think the movie dragged at all. The flashbacks were necessary to show how Garland got to the sad state that she was in. Makes you think that at that time MGM was probably worse than Harvey was in his day!

Aside from the movies I saw in cinemas, I decided to watch some horror movies since it was the month of Halloween. - The Orphanage was really great, stunning movie - The Haunting was an excellently directed horror movie from the 60s and was very effective. Could've done with a lot less voice overs though. - Black Christmas has some great moments, especially with how it's directed, but it often has some more boring segments between them. Still it influenced a lot of slasher movies. - Let the Right One In is one of the best vampire movies, although the pacing at times could be too slow, I thought it was great.
Also rewatched Terminator 2 since Dark Fate is coming soon and it still holds up.

Rewatched Hereditary, which wasn't quite as great as I remembered, still a solid film but maybe not the masterpiece I thought it was. Also watched Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, which was fine 6/10,Les Diaboliques, which was great 9/10,and Fractured (Netflix)which is a surprisingly effective little thriller and definitely worth a watch 8/10.
