It's really sad to see her give up on these projects. It's been months since I've heard rumors that she gave up Vox Lux, just like Annete did, so it must be true. A pity she gave up these films instead of Mary Magdalene and Dont Worry
I'm looking forward to both films more than ever; they can turn out to be very good (though we must be very cautious especially when it comes to Mary Magdalene - in terms of release date and actual quality of the movie).
These two films shouldn't be blamed for Annette and Vox Lux in any way, it's obvious that their schedule wasn't the problem. And I'm glad that at this point we have at least two movies with Rooney next year.
rarher only one movie, and gods konws what will happen with it, the other one is just a cameo, so no more than a few minutes on screen, if even that, i'm not holding my breath it's not about "blaming" these movies, but i'd change them for Annette and Vox Lux too, those were so much more interesting projects imo

A pity she gave up these films instead of Mary Magdalene and Dont Worry Well, if those rumours are true that the script of Vox was really bad, then I’m ok if she dropped it because of that reason… I think the main reason why she did MM is because of Garth, remember that she was planning to say no to Lion before that phone call. Of course, like everyone here, I miss hearing she’s doing and booking new projects. But then I remember shie’s like Lisbeth when choosing work. I can’t complain when I realize I had gone 4 times to the theatre to see her movies in the last few months, less than a year because I remember I went to see Lion on december 26, also we had The discovery on Netflix, 5 movies total, and in a few days the digital release of The secret scripture, 6 movies in less than a year, 2 to come. I think we have been spoiled with a lot lately, and we are expecting the same ;) . “she’s like Lisbeth when choosing work” <333333 The funny thing and good sign is that she looks happy and relaxed in her last events and interviews. We all know she’s transparent

Uh, this is disappointing. This could've been her most unique project.

When this movie is released (2018 or 2019) it will be interesting to know if the script is really "terrible" or "bad" as they say on AwardsWatch. Let's wait and see.
Something tells me Rooney has made a big mistake...

I don’t see Rooney rejecting this role ( o any role) for a bad script. She was? there for Corbet and Vachon. But maybe I’m wrong.

Same here. I don't believe script is bad either. It's puzzling why she dropped out of this because it's exactly the type of the project she would be interested - working with young auteur director who already has one successful film behind. Filming of Don't Worry was in March so she had more than enough time to rest (eight months is much free time by Hollywood standards). No busy schedule, no other projects anytime soon; and Vox Lux was the reason why she left Annette in the first place (or we believe that).
Maybe she is planning something really good so she needs a little longer break ?

i wonder if it had to do with the movie's financing. it's about a famous pop star so it's possible it's on the expensive side for an art film. and it doesn't sound too Oscar-friendly. so maybe the movie didn't have what it needed to start, was pushed back, and could still not get funding so maybe Rooney blamed herself for not being "bankable" enough? i love her and the kinds of choices she makes and wouldn't want her to change, but she doesn't care about being "box office-friendly" which could lead to stuff like that

What we don't know for sure, though, is whether Natalie would replace Rooney - she might be playing another character, or it could be a cameo-type of role. If she does end up replacing her, I'll be disappointed.. I've been really interested in this project since Rooney's attachment was announced. But, I also really love Natalie as an actress too. Who knows at this point, until something is confirmed.

Who knows at this point, until something is confirmed. the reason people believe Natalie is in it is because she said in an interview that she's playing a "a messed up popstar" and has to learn to sing and dance. not because she's been announced as part of the cast or anything. so if she's talking about Vox Lux, which seems likely, i think she's definitely the lead

Yes, I know it was not a problem on the agenda that made her give up on Annete and Vox Lux. What I meant is that it's a pity she's more interested in films like Lion, Mary Magdalene and Dont Worry than Annete and Vox Lux. Because she gave up on both films for no apparent reason and both are a film that would certainly add a lot to her career, unlike Lion, MM and DW

Annette and Vox Lux are weirder projects. they were both announced a long time ago at this point and have been delayed multiple times. i think it's hard for an actor to stay attached to something for quite so long, whereas all the others filmed on schedule and two of them were/are very small roles

That's true, from pure artistic point of view Annette and Vox Lux certainly looked more interesting and challenging for her career. If it's any consolation, her wasn't-meant-to be mysterious part in Annette supposedly wasn't very big either. On the other hand Vox Lux seems like a dream role for any younger actress. I wish I'm wrong on this one but I think Rooney has made a big mistake...

That's interesting observation but I simply do not see Rooney dropping out of interesting project, blaming herself for lack of her box-office appeal. And it would be something of unethical move by Corbet and Vachon to get rid of her in such fashion. Nah...I do not believe that's true.
While Natalie is certainly more household name than Rooney, she didn't have much box-office success lately, after Black Swan. Her biggest project in this period was Jackie and it didn't made much money (almost half of Carol's total gross), despite very positive reviews.

yeah you're probably right and it didn't go down that way. but i don't think that would have been unethical. i feel like that happens a lot. if a movie truly isn't going forward unless a "bigger" name is cast, you have to make tough decisions. and maybe Rooney made the decision for them. you may be right about Natalie's star power but who knows what financiers think? or it could just be that she lost interest since it's a long time to be attached to something. i agree it's a way more interesting project than Mary Magdalene. i'm still more upset about Annette tho
