I'm still annoyed that she let it go. It seems that this role would be perfect for her. But I think Natalie will do a good job, I found the characterization interesting.

first look
Female Terminator (T-1000 model) ?
It's a cool look, can't deny. But isn't Natalie perhaps...a bit old for this role ? What age is Celeste supposed to be ? Movie is set between 1999 and 2014 right ? So I suppose it covers her age from late teens to early 30s ? Natalie isn't that young anymore, her age is slowly starting to be noticeable.
+ 1 She looks old. She’s old. This thread is sad. Still believe in Admin theory so I’m not mad with Rooney tho

Old to play a teenager in the movie, yeah. But apart from that she is in her best years as an actress.

 OLD? she's 36! i wouldn't mind to look half as good in my 36 and she's working like crazy, so many projects. i'm still interested in this one. we don't know how Corbet wants to do this, do we know who Raffey Cassidy is playing? maybe a teenege version of Celeste?

It seems everyone is working like a crazy, except...
That would be lame in my opinion. Different actors playing the same character is a soap opera level.
I'm interested too but if this movie is total success and gets some awards...

I'm interested too but if this movie is total success and gets some awards... like Rooney Mara and Ruby Stokes or Rooney Mara and Vanessa Redgrave i have no idea what the concept is, but let's not forget Celeste has to be damaged and destroyed by her life in a spot light, so she can't look too good at the end, it's a really challenging role, i think Portman is good enough, i don't have any complains about that casting, Rooney would be better though :smile2:

No, that's different. Ruby Stokes is a child and Rooney played grown-up version of her. In TSS Vanessa was very, very old version of Roseanne. All this s Ok.
But having two different actors to play the same character in late teens and late 20s/early 30s is not very convincing. Why just not cast actress in her early/mid 20s ? That's the ideal age to portray this character in both periods.
That's why I think Natalie is a little old for the part. In her 'Black Swan' time she would be perfect but now she looks her age (which of course are the best years for any actress, just a bit old to play a teenager). Rooney is only four years younger but she can still play 19 (I think ?)
That said, I'm glad Natalie got the role , not someone else. You know, someone who doesn't even have attention span to watch nominated films before voting. :no2:

i have no idea what's in the script and how extended her teenage-years scenes wiil be, but i recall something about mass shooting as a tragedy after she rised to fame so perhaps just in flashbacks or a couple of scenes from that incident intriguing how it will be handled as for not watching movies before voting, she didn't have to watch it, she lived it! you see? it's always boyfriend's fault! ;)

This is world premiering in competition at Venice.Imagine if it wins something. How much will Rooney be kicking herself for dropping out?.I'm surprised it still hasn't got a distributor though,Natalie's a big star, you'd think they'd be queuing up. :anger1:

It's still relatively unknown entity with art-house director (though with likely potential for mainstream because of A-list cast and the story) so they are probably still cautious. If it gets positive reactions or even becomes a hit and wins something in Venice then the future is bright for this movie.
I doubt Rooney would be upset that much (if at all). Her mind is probably somewhere else right now.

Oh, fuck off! :stupid: Pretty much confirms that Rooney didn't drop out and they just wanted a bigger name. Andrew Lauren & DJ Gugenheim On Natalie Portman In ‘Vox Lux’How did you get involved in Vox Lux? Andrew Lauren: I was introduced to Brady a while ago. I was very impressed by Childhood Of A Leader. The initial script we received was with Rooney Mara in the Natalie Portman role. We were trying to work out if it made sense for us. When Natalie came on board it pushed the button for us to say yes.
