A House in the Sky (???)

“We really like each other. She’s deeply compassionate, she’s thoughtful, and she really seems to understand the essence of what drove Amanda Lindhout in her 20s out into the world. That’s the most important thing and that is what is going to drive this film to success.”

We began by discussing the elephant in the room, the movie starring Rooney Mara as Amanda, which is in production and set to be released in 2016. Amanda not only approves of Mara playing herself, but believes she is a perfect choice, “I’m getting to know her, she is so cool. She feels like she was born for the role. The production company will be crafting it as a starring vehicle for Rooney for the awards!”



Seeing that the movie will be replaying on screen the suffering she endured, Amanda attempts to focus on the exciting aspects of the production, “Most of the time I am just excited. But of course, the movie is portraying something that was very difficult for me and will no doubt be resurfaced during production, but that is the reality of it.” Unfortunately, movies have a way of dilapidating beautifully written and amazingly inspirational stories, which could potentially occur with A House in the Sky, but Amanda seems hopeful that this will not be the case. “I am not really worried about how it will depict me or the story. Everybody on board with the production, including Rooney, who is not only acting but helping produce, is on pointe. No one wants to stray away from the page.”

It was announced last year that her book will be hitting the big screen as Annapurna Pictures, who has also backed Zero Dark Thirty and American Hustle will produce the film. Actress Rooney Mara will star in the film as well. Mara is best known for her Oscar-nominated role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.



Lindhout said the screenplay is complete and a director has been chosen, although Lindhout said she cannot release the name of the director at this point.
