As we've already talked about, I still think it's not a good idea to make a sequel to Joker for multiple reasons... but I don't think it's the devil's idea, as some people think, either. Honestly, the fact that it’s a musical makes me more excited than if it were a simple continuation because behind that idea there is risk, intention, ambition... Obviously it can be shit, but that possibility is always latent in every formulaic film as well. In that context I think Lady Gaga's choice is inspired... They say it will have a Leos Carax-ish style and I would like to see Joaquin in something like that. Maybe Rooney can have a big little role (not Harley) in the movie since Todd is really a friend of theirs?
I also don't think the kind of bullying Todd gets for quoting Scorsese in Joker is fair. Almodóvar, Haynes, PTA and many others have made careers quoting hundreds of movies...just most people haven't seen them

I think the producers typecast her into a role very quickly. Too edgy after Dragon Tattoo and too introverted after Carol. Rooney has tried to break out of the mold with House, Vox Lux and Annette and it hasn't worked out because the producers won't back her financially. This is a huge waste of talent. Trust me I would think that even if I wasn't such a big fan of Rooney. I think she is an extraordinary actress objectively |

Can she produce something on her own? Some indie projects where she will have more space to show her talent? She doesn't have any new project listed on her IMDb page except 'La Cocina'. And that isn't a good sign. I thought she'd be more hungry for the roles after three years of break. A few weeks ago someone on World of Reel (or Awards Daily? really don't remember) said that Rooney is very talented actress but finds her choice of movies and roles "puzzling". Which is true because she doesn't challenge herself as an actress enough anymore. Can Luca rescue her career? Maybe but it seems only after 'Scarface' remake (yawn) and Zendaya tennis flick (meh). And where is Fincher for Christ's sake? |
