No surprises here really, this has everything to be good :) . I wonder what Harvey's thinking, first he ignored Rooney achievement at Cannes while promoting Carol and now why this movie is not at Cannes... Cannes loves Rooney.

Harvey might be a big name, but even he can't guarantee you a Cannes slot. And who knows, maybe he did try. For me personally, I don't want to imagine the repercussions if a film with a sensitive subject matter like this doesn't play well with the Cannes folks. I think it's good it's not playing in there. Cannes can be super immature. Venice is better place for MM. Hope that's what Weinstein's eyeing.

Italians are religious. I think he didn't do much to have the movie at Cannes.

i think it wasn't ready, Garth was still working on it in April (if i recall it correctly), better to make it slowly and calmly than in a hurry and under pressure

In 2011, there was booing on The Tree of Life projection (the last 20 minutes - so called "religious" stuff). In the end, it wasn't a problem for the movie to get Palme d'Or but I agree with Red, "religious" movies can be risky at Cannes, Venice seems like better option.

I don’t remember well TTOL, maybe they booed it because people don’t like being sermoned with religious stuff where least expected. With MM, we know what it is about, I mean it’s religious but it's being announced as a humanized perspective and I think we won’t be felling sermoned there, I’m sure Garth has treated the subject well, the way you don’t feel you’re being evangelized. It is like going to a church just because I love architecture, and i don’t like when I check my FB account and see religious messages from a few people.

I don't get it. If Focus Features showed footage from the film, The Weinstein Co will do the same? What's the point of doing this
