Some critics saw the trailer in an Universal event. Maybe that means something. Maybe Harvey isn't really on board of this Where is Universal distributing it? I'm bit confused.

It was not a US event, though, right? Universal is one of the production companies for MM and trailer in Cannes played at Focus Features presentation, they are a subsidiary of Universal Pictures and handle international rights and sales for the movie. Do you guys think this will still possibly show up at TIFF and Telluride? I do believe it's going to be at TIFF. And for Telluride, it has better chances than Venice.

IMDb has a Sweden date and it's also March 23, 2018. That's a weeekend before Easter, right? Makes sense. But i can feel US date change incoming.

But i can feel US date change incoming.i think it could be a pretty good idea, if it means that Rooney and Garth will be working together through fall and the end of the year (on A House) and won't be able to do any promotion/festivals or campaigning for MM, then i can accept the date change to 2018, but only IF it's the case 8D and considering Rooney's movies releases for 2018, there's not much to look for really (only Don't Worry with a small part), i doubt Vox Lux is an option for 2018 at this point, so Mary would have a room to rule ;)

RIP Rooney's Oscar chances for 2017  What went wrong here ? i still think it could be a very good movie, from Garth's and Fraser's words about it, to Harvey's decision to release it on November 24 - he saw something in it, i don't believe he now simply doesn't see it anymore, perhaps i'm too optimistic regarding the quality of MM and Rooney's performance but i suspect more of a tactic/strategic factor is in play here. plus WC's constant problems with money

Studio placed the film in their coveted date and they have a job to do. If it moves than it either just bad (worst scenario) or more of a commercial fare with smart release date before Easter that won't really jive with Academy and critics, so let's just make some money with it (not the worst scenario). Hell, maybe Harvey breaks with UPI and just release it as planned, but it's not looking good right now.

Garth wasn't at a few major events for Lion (festivals and premiers if i'm not mistaken), because he was shooting MM, Lion was released November 25

Who knows, maybe it's solid or even very good movie - just not Academy's cup of tea. Idk, I only hope Garth didn't made some unconvincing tearjerker out of it. In that case, it would be easy target for "whitewashing" crusaders when the time comes. Disappointment would be much smaller for us without that Thanksgiving date.
Maybe Roon is nominated for Oscar every four years (2011-2015-2019) When you think about it this wouldn't be bad at all; the question is - for which movie ? Vox Lux, A House in the Sky or something else ?
At this point, I only want Vox Lux to be made; awards aren't important.

The film is good. I think. The screenwriter of MM called Garth "visionary" time ago in her twitter . Everyone talks great things about the experience... I'm sad too. I wanted this year ... But winning an Oscar for a religious film is not exactly realistic. Maybe it's written in the stars that Rooney gets the golden guy in her drawer as Amanda
