Could go The Immigrant way. Good film but fucked by Weinstein.
Having said that, I still think we're overthinking this. Let's wait it out, maybe we're getting worked up for nothing.

More films announced today, and still no word on Mary Magdalene. I hope it still possibly shows up, or goes to Telluride. Hopefully it doesn't get pulled from the schedule. :confuse: To be fair, new announcements are not Galas or Special Presentations. I think, if MM shows up, it will be in one of those.

Mary Magdalene will be at the Angelika in NYC. linkLooks like the November date will be happening. Any September Festival dates seem to be in doubt (Telluride is still possible), looks like they may have a different marketing/promotional strategy. Universal appears to be winning the Daily Double here with European Premiers sandwiched shortly after the Oscars (certainly MM gets noms) and shortly before Easter. Maybe Harvey can use Christmas as a box office play with a wide release in early December, leaving January for Current Wars to go wide, so not competing with each other for prime box office, though MM will likely have a different primary market from that of 'CW' but they will certainly be overlap. Mary Magdalene will be at the Angelika in NYC. linkWas it there for some time or was it just added? Update: judging by their Facebook page, they added it on August 4th. Hmm.

This "About" sounds good
"ABOUT Director Garth Davis (LION) brings to life an authentic and humanistic portrait of one of the most enigmatic and misunderstood spiritual figures in history, MARY MAGDALENE. Constricted by the hierarchies of the day, Mary (Rooney Mara) defies her traditional family and leaves her small village to join a new social movement led by Jesus of Nazareth (Joaquin Phoenix). She soon finds a place for herself within the radical movement. As the notoriety of the group spreads and more are drawn to follow Jesus' inspirational message, Mary's spiritual journey places her at the heart of a story that will lead to the capital city of Jerusalem, where she must confront the reality of Jesus' destiny and her own place within it."

Well, Mary Magdalene certainly will not be nominated at the awards this year. With luck Vox Lux will debut at the major film festivals next year.

I'm not entirely convinced about MM being moved to another date until it's confirmed. As for Vox Lux, I hope you're right and it shoots quickly, but from the look of it, that seems to be unlikely for now.

I don`t think they`re going to move the date either.Harvey has obviously seen a final cut and thinks it`s good enough for a November release so he must think it`s an awards contender.I still think he probably favors The Current War though.

Actually as horrorstoryfanfan posted above it is being advertised by a NYC theater as opening there as originally scheduled. They wouldn't be, it seems to me, updating their website and advertising if they didn't have confirmation. Just because it hasn't and may not appear at the normal festivals, does not mean it won't be opening on schedule. Nor should we be concerned for it's Awards consideration, it is just that they will be promoting it differently than the traditional festival approach. Charles

But seriously, if he did this only because he is producer of Current War and MM is equally good (or even better) movie then...no words, really.
So...yeah, another Awards season for me to skip, just like the last year.

'The Current War' previous date was December 22. I wonder if MM will take that place or go to 2018, closer to most of european release dates.

If he decides on December, there's still some small chance for acting nomination(s) perhaps, although that seems unlikely.
It will be 2018 release, probably. Maybe MM doesn't have enough British accents in it which means - not "prestigious" enough for TWC (and Oscar voters) :anger2:
Or, of course, maybe it's not good enough.

Re: "not good enough". It very much might be the case. I'm ready for it, shit happens. What's weird is that we had no reports of test screenings. Harvey tests pretty much everything, sometimes to death, 'The Current War' was tested 7 or 8 times. We haven't heard anything about MM, AT ALL. As you said he's not the producer on MM, so i wonder if he doesn't have that much power or clout over Davis and other producers.
