last two times aren't making any favors to her career, super small role wasting her talent and now not so good movie, kind of a lost opportunity too, imo. not a great record, 3 times with one actor it's enough
That's perhaps problem of the script (not edgy enough) or Garth is too much safe director for them. If someone else played Jesus do you think things would be different ?
Tbh, which movie exactly after Carol was doing favors for Rooney's career ? TSS ? Lion ? Una ? The Discovery ? That's right, none of them. And Joaquin wasn't "problem" there.
I really think Lion, Una and A Ghost Story are films that are great for her career. Lion did very well in the box office and the reviews were great, and it managed to bring her to some new audiences. Both Una and A Ghost Story are very strong indie films, with the first one being her best performance. It's a bit amazing the negativity of some of you sometimes...

So critics complain when the cast is "too much white" or "too much Hollywood" and"not authentic enough". But now, suddenly accents of Greek, French and Israeli supporting actors playing Mediterranean characters in the movie are too much "Mediterranean" and "mumbling" ?
What they want exactly ? American accents for this story?

Ah I see, so the solution is what exactly ? Not American, nor "Mediterranean, mumbling" (as they say) accents. Any advice ? What, some posh, upper-British talk would be more preferable for them ?

A Ghost Story is great movie, my favorite from 2017. I didn't mention it in my post above.
Yes, Lion did very well at the box-office but none (critics or audience) was impressed with Rooney's performance in it, not even people who loved the movie. If you remember some of them even used to say that her character was "completely pointless for the story" and that her casting wasn't necessary. Personally, I loved this performance but honestly, that's type of role she could do even in her sleep (more suitable for actresses like Emma Watson etc). What exactly this role has done for Rooney's career ? It has no staying power like AGS (for us maybe but nobody else).
Una performance is great (in her top 3 for sure) but what use of it when only 15-20 people has seen the movie ? Maybe her performance in MM is even better, who knows ?
It's not about negativity, it's about the fact that some of us here blame only films with Joaquin in it (Don't Worry and now, Mary Magdalene) and everything else seems fine for them. Which is far from truth.

Nope, it would be too much to expect from some critics to read subtitles.

Those clips are nice, but too much of Jesus for what I thought it would be more about Mary Magdalene, I will have to wait long to see if MM is really the lead here.

Which is far from truth. i've never said that Lucy is an important role, it's a bit better than Annu though, from what i've read so far, nobody said that Lucy is an arm candy and completely unrealistic character, but Annu is unanimously claimed to be a waste of Rooney's talent, and "blame only films with Joaquin in it"? blame for what? what are we talking about? i'm just saying that her 2 last films before a long break, she made with Phoenix, both are unsatisfactory and a let down to me. first is just a meaningles cameo and the second has pretty bad reviews so far (20 on rottentomatoes and 45 on metacritics, Lion in on 86 btw), it's very soon, i know, but i'm not happy with what i read about MM right now. of course it's not entirely his fault, what movies she chooses or how they turns out, but i don't want to see another one with him! i don't know if it would be a failure, but it wouldn't be a good move, to make movies only with her boyfriend, it's just creepy. i repeat again and again - 3 are enough. for a loooong time at least, like for next 20 years. that's all i'm saying.

Yeah, sure this movie will not do well at the box office, with that release date and these reviews ... After so many bad movies getting thrown one after another I wonder when Rooney will do something good again.
