I went to see Mary Magdalene today. I arrived a few minutes late, i got distracted seeing which other films they had. Anyways I got in just when Mary was helping delivering a baby. What did i miss? What i didn’t like: I found the story telling was boring. I wish whoever edited the new trailer edited the movie too. Jesus was so depressed, not like i was expecting a cheerful party guy, but you know, i guess I was expecting someone less in his head, warmer. The performance is great, but i guess he was playing another person. What i loved: I think this is the third time now that Rooney is excellent in a movie , I put this performance along TGWTDT and Carol, in that level. She was very convincing, amazing all she does without saying much to nothing. I’m so mad her performance won’t be considered for awards next year. She’s the best thing in the movie. Some of the shots were really nice. Tahar Rahim, was a nice surprise, really natural acting, like not acting :) I liked that he was warm. I liked the scene in which Jesus comes to baptize MM, the way he walks toward her. And now I’m hoping that a producer or a director with a great project will remember how great Rooney is and cast her soon. This hasn’t been advertised in town, only 5 people included me that went to see the movie, one left really early.

This really bombed at the the box office :(.$62,000 from 62 screens. There was so little publicity about it I don't think most people even knew it was being released.

Maybe there is still hope for me to see it on the big screen, 5 hours to spend on a movie, when we are getting ready to leave town is just to much, but maybe it will show closer than 50 miles away. Fox news is reporting that it opens in the US on Good Friday, April 19th. It is getting some national pub, may or may not help, but we will see. Charles link

I think this sequence ( + a few minutes, until Jesus is dead, under the cross) is so beautifully shot. And Rooney.... wow

Looks like I will need to do VOD as it isn’t on in Houston anywhere.
Oh well.

"Phoenix’s method-actor version of Jesus — picture Ratso Rizzo in the desert..."
Nah...Joaquin doesn't resemble Dustin Hoffman in this movie at all
