There's been some shade thrown around about whitewashing but it's no where near the scale of Pan. I don't think it will be that bad. I agree. It's just that people on the internet can be really painful when they start trashing actresses. In this case Rooney. You'd think I would've gotten used to it by now
Don't pay attention to those losers. They really aren't worthy of that.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Harvey's eyeing Cannes for this. Hoping you are right! Just love the Cannes experience, just watching on my computer. C

Just curious, can someone explain to me the "whitewashing" controversy for this? I've seen it on Twitter, but I don't really understand it. Others may draw a different conclusion, but here is my take. There are those that think Mary and Jesus, I suppose, should have darker skin more like the general population of the middle east. My personal view is that Jewish people do not share the same gene pool as non Jewish middle eastern people and would likely have had fairer skin. Hopefully that helps, others may add to this discussion. Mostly this comes from just a few people, likely trolls, from the old IMDB boards. Charles

I think I'm already ready for another awards season For now I would settle for Cannes, but two months away. When do they announce the film selections? Charles

The Playlist and I want a Telluride-TIFF combo
"“Mary Magdalene” starring Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix is perhaps the biggest of the bunch, reuniting the duo from “Her,” in a Biblical tale directed by “Lion” helmer Garth Davis. Indeed, the Weinsteins are going with the same rollout as the Google Earth drama, setting “Mary Magdalene” to debut on November 24th, which makes a fall festival premiere at Telluride or TIFF (or both) very likely."

Did Harvey write that article? But seriously, I have my doubts but I really hope things work out well for fall season.

If The Current War gets good reviews , Harvey will campaign for actors and maybe supporting actress. No competition for Rooney here but I don't know for Joaquin or Chiwetel (or even Rahim).

I don't think so. August release date isn't especially good sign for awards. Perhaps movie is good enough but her role isn't Oscar worthy. November suggests that MM is Harvey's major pony next season and he obviously knows something we don't : Maybe he saw rough cut of the film ?

:lol2: I was thinking the same thing, let's hope he'll be out of sight as he promised when MM is out. He screws things up then victimize himself.
