I'd love to see Rooney in some sort of modern day crime story. I've actually been writing a screenplay like this for a while and I've been imagining her as one of the protagonists where she plays the leader of a gang and I think she would be great in a role. Wouldn't exactly be a role that she's done before. |

We need Cate Blanchett to make good movies again so that Rooney sees them and wants to be an actress again. So often Rooney has a period when she feels lost and unmotivated.

I think the problem is she can't find good scrips, I have no idea if she can write, I heart a few times actresses saying that they started writing roles for herself because they couldn't find any good... If I were her, i would hire Phylliss Nagy and be a producer too. |

I'd very like to see Rooney starring opposite Adam Driver in some project, especially now when Annette wasn't destined to be. I have a feeling this would be a very good chemistry on screen.

Really miss Rooney as an actress. Miss the excitement when I read that Rooney signed for a new quality project in the news, miss those brief speculations on how she will look on the movie sets, enthusiasm during waiting for her new movie(s) to be released, interviews with her co-stars and directors, red carpet appearances etc. Her commitment to veganism and her new fashion line are noble and we as her fans must support it but all that is really not real replacement for all the missing things above.
I'm bored right now (something I thought I'd never say about anything related to her). We have MM coming out soon. And... what next ?
Please tell me she'll be back soon and more hungry for god movies/roles than ever.

Really miss Rooney as an actress. Miss the excitement when I read that Rooney signed for a new quality project in the news, miss those brief speculations on how she will look on the movie sets, enthusiasm during waiting for her new movie(s) to be released, interviews with her co-stars and directors, red carpet appearances etc. Her commitment to veganism and her new fashion line are noble and we as her fans must support it but all that is really not real replacement for all the missing things above.

nothing. there's nothing new, just a black hole of withdrawal. and that's just a beginning, can you imagine the rest of the year, and maybe the next one with... nothing? :shock: i was heartbroken when i saw a bunch of pics from Vox Lux set, Jude with Stacy on the street, shooting a scene, laughing :wall: at this point i'd be happy to hear she has intentions to act again at all, doesn't matter in what, just that she has some plans involving acting, oh the desperation! wait. not a comeo as a bimbo girlfriend ever again, this would be just cruel. and it's not a real acting job anyway. look at us, we're complaining and whining again  ;) |

I mean, she is not obligated to "entertain" us non-stop in any way; no, nothing like that. It's not just the actress part why we love her but many more charming things about her, of course.
But all this came rather out of nowhere. I wish she is working full steam until this decade is over at least. Right now it seems like a "Rooney Mara: The Wilderness Years". :smile2:
But yeah, enough with complaining. I'm convinced we'll hear some exciting news later this year.

well, we are here because of her roles and movies in the first place, so we're hungry for more. i am. it pains me, such a great talent laying on the shelf... it would be shame if this place would turn to a ridiculous shipping place for example, as a filler for her acting career  i will die from boredom and disgust, thank god for HIRAETH :D i'm ok with complaining, we need a support group to survive her looong break  |

I find it tiresome when an actor is everywhere, and even worse when they are everywhere with meh projects. Rooney knows what she wants, she doesn’t pick projects just to “accumulate” and for the sake of money. Also we have no idea which circumstances are delaying her projects (ex. AHITS). And again I admire her so much for doing everything her heart tells her to do  , specially because most of the time people do only things for themselves, not to be kind with the rest. Remember she said she needed to live life or something like that, I also remember she said she couldn’t be just acting…I’m not worried, she'll come back reloaded…so excited for her future projects. |

Honestly, in my opinion, she does not know how to run a career. She picks up good projects but does not know how to take advantage of them, she wants to work with people she finds interesting but ends up picking up insignificant roles in bad films ... She has missed many good opportunities in recent years. She's just been picking up boring, repetitive projects, it's been years since she last stepped out of the comfort zone and did something new, exciting. |

Honestly, in my opinion, she does not know how to run a career. Her post-Carol career was overall a disappointment. It should have been much, much more. If David Lowery didn't get a new idea for a movie we wouldn't have even A Ghost Story now which is her best project in this period and yet, very small number of people had seen it; which was somewhat expected but still  . Even when she gives terrific performance (Una) almost no one knows about this. Maybe the same fate with Mary Magdalene, who knows ? That's one part of the problem. I doubt many people will be interested to see A House in the Sky either, no matter how possibly good she might be in it.
Rooney needs a little more ambition and to choose more challenging roles, maybe the ones with potential to connect with the (intelligent) modern audience more (Vox Lux seems exactly that). Some plan or what exactly she wants for her movie career. More careful choices of new projects. Maybe change her agent too ? Idk, she seems a little naïve in all this, compared of other younger actresses who have more calculating approach (at least this is how it looks to me). With her talent she is surely capable to deliver a few iconic film performances n this day and age and she has her devoted fans among cinephiles without a doubt. The last two years were kind of comfort zone for her (working with Garth because she likes him and that's OK but is that a good idea for a long, undefined period ?)
Maybe ideal plan for her would be to choose three movies with high-quality prospects in a year (no cameos, only strong lead and supporting roles):
- indie movie (like A Ghost Story or Ain't Them Bodies Saints) - drama with more mainstream potential (like Carol, Her, Side Effects, TSN or Una) - mainstream project but not superhero or franchise movie (more like TGWTDT)
David Lowery, Todd Haynes, David Fincher would be exactly right directors for these types of movies. If they aren't available there's a lot of others, that's for sure. And she doesn't need to like them.
