I saw The Secret Scripture. Rooney is good enough on it but the movie is bad. The screenplay is a joke and the direction bland... Rooney looks beautiful tho. And It's Sheridan so I'm glad she did it anyway. It's in DVD in many places. Her performance is pretty and sensitive as usual though. Still a must see for her fans.

I've seen it month ago. Yeah I must agree, it looks pretty flat - more like some short story or flashback extended on 100 minutes and the script is basically non-existent. Not sure why Sheridan thought one time that this has some chances for the awards; movie looks too much old-fashioned and non-involving to be taken seriously even by sentimental, older audience. Waste of talent, good cinematography and beautiful Irish landscapes.
Shame because it had good potential on paper, book is much more complex. But this movie adaptation doesn't have anything in common with the original story - except for the names, time and place. Characters are almost totally different and many of them are missing also. Rooney looks gorgeous (naturally) and she is perfectly cast but ultimately let down by the script and boring, uninspired direction.
Btw, am I the only one who think that Jack Raynor and Aidan Turner should have switched roles ? Raynor isn't very convincing to me as some old-time romantic hero type; he looks like kid compared to her and their scenes aren't believable enough.

Yeah. It's a real shame. I don't know what was Sheridan thinking. Why is he in such a bad form. Rooney called him "mad as hatter" (To Malick too) meaning "he did whatever he wants". It's a compliment for Malick and a flaw in Sheridan. And yes, the boys are baaad...even Redgrave looks lost in the screenplay nonsense. The only good acting is from Rooney, really. She makes elegant choices when was really easy over reacting or going cheesy. He gave some category and old actress charming to her role. It's like the only good thing of the film.

DVD is not available here :|. I’m upset this has not been released for legally streaming yet. Still haven’t watched that pirate link, even though nobody has loved it and seems that Sheridan’s gold was to fock this up, I really want to see it just to see what Rooney did on it.

Like...80-85% of a movie. Before watching I thought she and Redgrave will have the same screen time - one in the present, the other in the past. But Rooney is undoubtedly the lead actress in this film.

Still think Sheridan failed on purpose, I've done that myself when I was little :lol2: , but here there where other people involved.

According to Flicks.co.nz, The Secret Scripture comes to New Zealand cinemas on the 7th of December (however it doesn't list yet if it'll be at a cinema near me).
