lol they are giving English tea... Still haven't seen it, I find it very weird that this movie doesn't have a social media account, like they don't want to promote it?

I really enjoyed this film, I saw it four times already! It's badly written, they didn't do a good job with the book adaptation and that's why it got all those negative reviews I think. But the acting is fantastic, the costumes, the cinematography... there's a lot to save in this movie, and Rooney looks as gorgeous as ever.

They had changed like 70% of the book for this movie adaptation - and for the worse.
TSS has some good things like you say (Rooney really looks gorgeous and cinematography is excellent) but the script was a big let down and ultimately, it's too much old-fashioned film and story to be taken seriously by the most of modern audience. It would look out of place even in the 1960s (like David Lean's Ryan's Daughter), let alone now. If some things were done more effective (particularly better written script) this project would have much more potential.
In my opinion, Jack Reynor was miscast as Rooney's love interest. He looked indifferent and a bit bored for the good portion of movie and there's no strong chemistry between them. It should have been Aidan Turner (Poldark) who is wasted in minor role anyway. He has more that "classic leading man from the Hollywood Golden Age" appearance which story like this desperately needs.

wasn't it Sheridan responsible for the script? i remember Sebastian Barry wasn't happy about how it turned out. i agree about Jack Reynor lack of chemistry and any spark with Rooney, it didn't work at all. it's a mystery to me why she has a great chemistry with Affleck or Patel but nothing with Reynor or Segel, is this a director's failure of some sort? looking through some comments on facebook or twitter lately i see rather good and great reviews from random people (great reviews on amazon too), mostly from ladies recomending it and taking a lot of tissues with you :D so there's an audience enjoying it

Yeah, if I remember correctly Barry complained that movie doesn't do his novel a justice. And Sheridan responded by saying that changes were made to adjust novel for a film (yes, this is the right thing to do when you adapt book for the big sceen but in the case of TSS all this was done rather clumsy and a little lazy).
Reynor and Segel were miscast, Dev and Casey were right for their roles, simple as that. This is also one of director's main jobs - to make a chemistry between lead actors believable. And surprisingly, Sheridan failed this time. But sometimes it's too much even for director to improve this if the leads are simply not suited for each other. Nicholas Hoult would've been a much better choice as lead in The Discovery (and he was a good pick by Charlie) but unfortunately, he dropped out. I really hate when good, ideal casting was ruined by scheduling conflicts or something else (Vox Lux )
Glad to hear that some audience are enjoying TSS . I wouldn't say movie is bad; just mediocre one and wasted potential (Ask Red how much I anticipated this flick back in 2015 on IMDb)

just random people watching it on amazon prime, i doubt many viewers have seen it in cinemas, same thing with Una. and A Ghost Story. omg and Song to Song too, and The Discovery hasn't been even released. i have an impression nobody watched these movies, they just disappeared. i know they weren't big movies and extremely good movies, but they all just underperformed somehow, am i wrong? it's kinda funny, critics and cinephiles loved AGS while hating on TSS but ordinary audience hated (didn't get it?) AGS and enjoyed TSS say what you want about Garth but he knew how to make Rooney and Dev work on their chemistry. all those exercises he told them to do paid off eventually

That's one of the reasons why I said that her career after Carol (2016-2018) was disappointing, more or less. None of these movies were bad, far from it (I really love Song to Song and Rooney's performance in Una; Lion is a nice film too) and I'm especially glad for all this critic's love for A Ghost Story - it's my personal favorite of 2017. Problem is that these movies generally fail to reach wider audience and this begins to look like a rule. Art-house projects for small, niche audiences (StS, AGS) or (slightly) Oscar-baity films (Lion, Don't Worry) with no real staying power among cinephiles. She will slowly disappear from public consciousness as an actress if this continues. It's a good thing to have a movie with potential to become cult classic in her filmography but two-three more mainstream flicks (ones that people will want to see in the theaters) in the future wouldn't hurt.
Let's see what happens with Mary Magdalene.

I'm glad you like it :) , I haven't seen it yet, there's an import DVD but too expensive to buy imports. I can't believe the producers don't do anything to promote this movie. There was so much going on in the book, I think there was enough material for 3 books in that book. Can't believe it's not on Netflix yet.

Looks like this is on Amazon Prime here in the U.S.
433 ratings have this 4.6 out of 5 stars. 82% were 5 star ratings.
Getting some love on Amazon. Hope to watch this after we get moved in.
