I agree with everything you said. But what do you mean by 'Vox Lux' being buried? Mostly meaning, if Netflix buys it, it won't get good marketing, and will be quietly put on their platform, no press tour, trailer will drop week of release, etc. I could be totally wrong, but I'm unable to see this going to Netflix at all or any other streaming service. This feels more like it's going to be a theatrical experience, with the music and singing and hopefully some crazy-ass dancing Also, I trust Christine Vachon to handle this well. She does have some say when making a decision like that, no?

The article bothers me in multiple ways, this is coming from a privileged film critic who has every film pre-screened theatrically to them via the distributor, and who attends almost every film festival. I live in the U.S, I only get to see about 10% of all indie releases all year, primarily A24/FSL/SPC/AMAZON films, the rest I have to wait for VOD/Blu-Ray, etc. How am I suppose to see everything on the big screen if it never comes near my area or an area surrounding me? Netflix is good in some cases, mainly they are good for paying large amounts of money for films, which benefit the producers getting their money back on however much they spent on it. The film's acquired and or produced by Netflix are released in almost every country in the world, compared to a regular indie film, that may never reach some countries. Netflix is horrible in the marketing department, some films never get key art, trailers don't drop until a week before, no one goes on press tours. Why doesn't Netflix become like Amazon, theatrically distribute your films, then 3-4 months later, have it pop up on Netflix, getting a better marketing department. We only have to worry about VOX LUX getting buried, I'm sure HOUSE IN THE SKY will likely be released by Annapurna, since they are distributors now. i don't think his intentions were to stop Netflix from buying and providing movies, the problem is they're grabbing things and shoving them on the shelf where the dust settles on them, without a proper exposure to the audience, this 160 countries and milions of viewers around the world is a nice tale, but there no way to know how many people actually saw the movie or even if anyone knows about the movie existence. you're right, they should do more, they spend so much money why not some of that on theatrical release and promotion, it wouldn't hurt.

I'm making my way through Michael Shannon's filmography (an actor I've always loved throughout the years) and I started today with Take Shelter. Never watched a film from Jeff Nichols before, which is clearly a mistake since he's evidently a very talented and understated writer and director. Shannon and Chastain are completely believable and terrific as husband and wife, and Chastain especially steals the show as his wife trying to keep it together while she witnesses her husband slowly be consumed with madness from the visions he keeps experiencing of an incoming apocalypse. Shannon has made a career of characters on the verge of losing it suddenly exploding like a force of nature, and Take Shelter is no exception, with the dinner scene being the film's most powerful moments of the film, as well as one of Shannon's finest as an actor:
What makes this even more than other scenes where Shannon completely loses it is the vulnerability of when he completely breaks down at the end and is comforted by Chastain, who proves that she's just as much of a screen presence as him by matching the emotional intensity and embracing him when he's at his most lowest in front of all the people watching them.
Film in general was really well made, although I wish it would've picked up the pace a bit quicker, otherwise I really enjoyed it. Love the visions he experienced-had a tinge of Rust Cohle from True Detective season 1 (although this came out way before) as well as a bit of Silent Hill. Shannon is one of those actors like Rooney who I can watch in anything they're in, regardless of the quality of the film. Next, I'm on to the Iceman.

Is anyone looking forward to Call Me By Your Name? I'm looking forward to it, since it's a Luca Guadagnino film, and plus Timothèe Chalamet and Armie Hammer! It also got great reviews, I plan on reading the book. I'm so glad its a well done gay film, I'm gay and there's not too many well-done films, other than Carol. Well, I can't wait to see it! +1 I'm not gay tho :) But that's not the point.
