I wonder if they will release it in November? Seems to be the best date (awards wise, since Carol & Lion launched in November)
If reviews are positive (and we all hope this to happen) - yes, absolutely. Almost certainly in Thanksgiving week. Depends also on other Harvey's horses in the race next season.
Unless he lands some major distribution deals, I don't really see any real competition for MM from Weinstein's slate. He's got nothing for 2017 that sounds interesting. Mostly some comedies, an animated movie, and just like with Gold and The Founder, he's seems dumping Tulip Fever for a feb release. He better not pull something like this with MM

That's good news then. At least, there will be no much competition on the home playground (TWC). If MM gets Lion's reviews the movie is on the good way, nominations are almost certain. If the reviews are even better... :queen:
Btw, it seems that backlash against MM from conservative audience is starting, slowly. Look at MM IMDb page and today's posts.

Harvey Weinstein reveals surprise favourite 'movie' and how John Kerry intervened to help 'Lion'
[...]the movie mogul joked that he’s anticipating protests for upcoming project Mary Magdalene, which sees Joaquin Phoenix play Jesus Christ opposite Rooney Mara, with Lion helmer Garth Davis directing. The Weinstein Co. are distributing in the US with Universal taking international.
Weinstein, who’s film Dogma was denounced as “blasphemous” by the Catholic League back in 1999, said of Mary Magdalene: “It’s a very different interpretation of the traditional story as we know it. I’ll probably take a vacation around the time the film comes out because over the years the Catholic League have me their poster boy. I get sent lovely letters [saying things] like ‘Dear Jew mother fucker’.”

yeah, he should go away on a vacation during promotion anyway, unless he wants Rooney to hold his family hostage

That was a Kevin Smith movie, I remember Alanis Morissette was playing God, she didn't say a line and wear flip flops, I only was interested in that movie because of her there and her song was in the soundtrack which I still have, I guess somewhere where I keep my CDs. That movie was a joke and I don't remember too many people protesting for the film... anyways those were 56k modem connection days.

It is going to be different with MM which as Garth has said it is a human portrait of her life, she sill be not be portrayed as a whore :) Dogma was a joke, a bad movie. I think even Catholics will like MM, I don't think this movie will leave us with a bad taste... of course there a re always people who like protesting just for the sake of protesting. :) I'm an ex-catholic myself, and if I still was one I'm very sure I would still love to see this movie :) #1 for Rooney :) and #2 when I was around 10 a priest in the school I attended told us MM was a whore, we didn't ask back what a whore was.

He better not pull something like this with MM I'm so upset about Tulip Fever, Alicia Vikander is also one of my favorite actresses, and that film has such a great cast. I hate the way he also pulls movies the week they are planned to be released in theaters. That kind of shit is coming back to haunt him now that nobody wants to work with him. It's scary as hell I know this is beyond Rooney, but I wish she was attached to this studio when they were doing well and not in the condition that they are in now. She would've also benefited by them a lot more then and not run the risk of being in their films that could get dumped like the others. I recently heard TWC couldn't give Keaton a campaign because they just couldn't afford it. Would not be surprised if the studio is doing worse than what we know.
