Anyone else here fan of The Talented Mr. Ripley ? Or I'm the only one ? This movie is criminally underrated. As one critic said - the best "Hitchcockian" movie that Hitchcock never directed. Many moviegoers see this only as Hollywood remake of Purple Noon (1960) with Alain Delon but that's a little bit unfair. Patricia Highsmith hated Purple Noon and Ripley is much more closer to the book. Personally, I love both versions.
Also, what I love about Ripley is ridiculously good cast.
It was a nice to see them all so young again. Funny, in that time Gwyneth was the biggest star, fresh Oscar winner and America's "sweetheart"; Damon had already Good Will Hunting and Saving Private Ryan in his filmography but he was still star in the making; Cate was only "that blonde Aussie actress from Elizabeth", Jude Law was virtually unknown and PSH was that "fat guy playing supporting weirdos" in movies.
Movie isn't entirely without flaws; it has two plot holes - one minor in the middle and one bigger at the end; thumbs up if someone notices them after (re)watching : Also, you can spot nice homages to Fellini's I Vitelloni (1953) and La Dolce Vita (1960).
My ranking of movies based on Patricia Highsmith's work (all strongly recommended if you missed some).
Carol - 10/10 Strangers on a Train - 9.5/10 The Talented Mr. Ripley - 9/10 Purple Noon (Plein Soleil) - 9/10 The Two Faces of January - 8/10 Ripley's Game - 6.5/10
Haven't seen A Kind of Murder (2016) and The American Friend (1977) with Dennis Hopper and Bruno Ganz which is superior original to Ripley's Game.

Me!!! during that time, I used to recommended it ;) . Where is Jack Davenport? BTW, I was a huge fan of Anthony Minghella's The Storyteller (as writter), John Hurt as the storyteller. I recently found all the episodes in YouTube. Visual effects doesn't look good now but it is all about the story telling.

Yeah, Jack Davenport is missing on the photo; he is the 6th side of the Ripley hexagon (erm...word "hexagon" reminds me of certain Terry Malick's film based in Austin ;) ).

That was the first time i saw Jack Davenport, he was really hot I was very impressed. Oh is it already an hexagon? last time I checked on the STS thread it was a Pentagon :lol2: . I felt as if I had seen more than half the movie with their previews, trailers and fan videos. I've read only a couple of reviews, just between the lines, they need to learn how to review and not to tell you all the story :-X , so I only have to wait now less than a month and try to forget: "rock and roll is death" , "photograph the epitaph", "tell it as if you mean it", etc ;) .

Is anyone else looking forward to watching Red Sparrow when it comes out?.I read the book a while ago and loved it.Of course I`d rather Rooney and Fincher were involved but I`m still intrigued to see how this one turns out.

Hmm... yes, I guess. But not too much.
{Spoiler!} Please don't mention this movie often to our main moderator. You'll upset her. ;)
Is book really good or just a Tom Clancy wannabe ?

not a fan, but i might watch this one, because of reasons I completely forgot Cate was in this. I don't have a clue what Thor or Avengers are about but I hope Cate gets all the love for it. Marvel has been on a roll.

It feels so 2011 no? Also it feels odd when Karen O isn't singing it.

yeah, the used Led Zeppelin version, i'm reading some complains about it, looking too much like Guardians of the Galaxy and not being serious enough for the end of the world plot (rofl)
