Ridiculously Early Oscar Predictions for 2018 (Zimbio):
link
- Mary Magdalene and even Song to Song are among their honorable mentions. I'm fine with that (for now).
- Rooney is in their HM Best Actress for Mary Magdalene or A Ghost Story
- Joaquin is in their Top 5 Best Actor for MM (Maybe he is supporting rather than lead ? He also have Lynn Ramsay's You were Never Really Here coming out this year).
- Not excited for Dunkirk at all; I don't like Nolan's style and this looks like big Oscar bait
- When Spielberg directs you know that some kid will be center of the story ...again. Boring !
- Wonderstruck Yeah ! But we all know that they never liked Todd and his films very much. Not a big optimist here.
- New Star Wars movie is their favorite to win Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actress ? Seriously ?
I'm excited for this Nordic crime thriller The Snowman (with Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Gainsbourg, J.K. Simmons, Chloe Sevigny etc) directed by Thomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). I read the book last year and it's fantastic.
And Untitled PTA's fashion drama, of course !

They also think their predictions are ridiculous :) how can they predict something if they haven't seen the movies yet... like those voters from the academy.

I think this statement is right:
Last year, exactly in this time, they had Silence as their favorite. Una, Rooney and Ben were also there :cry2:

If Rooney gets campaigned in Lead for MM, then maybe she'd get a campaign in supporting for Ghost (that's only if A24 is eyeing awards season).

Is it actually going to come out this year though? They're filming right now. And doesn't PTA like to take his own time in post?

I don't believe Untitled will be ready for this year but it's on every early prediction list. I'm just playing their game. Who knows, maybe this will be the first "quick" project for PTA, without taking much time in post-production ? Right now, I'll bet on 2018 release.
My three most anticipated films for 2017-2018 are Song to Song, Untitled and Vox Lux. And in a few weeks one of them is finally coming out after epically long wait. Despite some discouraging facts, I'm optimist about this film.

It could happen; much more possible then it seems at first sight. I'm confident in Mary Magdalene - if the movie gets at least Lion level of positive reviews nominations are almost certain. A Ghost Story will be more difficult beast to sell to big mainstream awards but excellent reviews and the fact that A24 is behind already are reasons enough for us to feel positive about this little "two nominations for Roons in one year" miracle.
It's way too early. Better to be more realistic and think only about MM at this moment. Daydreaming, no matter how positive and innocent, can produce big disappointment later.

It's going to be interesting to see how it works out. For now I'm just super pumped to see these films. Can't believe Song to Song and Una are finally coming out. The lord heard our prayers looks like, now if only he does something about TSS

nothing to do with Rooney directly, but there will be another movie about a pop star Elle Fanning Takes Lead in Max Minghella’s ‘Teen Spirit’Minghella co-wrote the script with Jamie Bell, who is also producing this movie (executive producer). and ofc Jamie is now engaged to Kate Mara. and Kate was dating Minghella for 4 years after they met on the set of TSN when she was visiting her sister Rooney. Rooney is playing a pop star too, different one but still soap opera level of connections :lol2:

As for Max and Kate, It's always nice to see people not letting go of their friendships with each other even after a breakup. As much as I love Jamie, I adored Max & Kate together. They made such a cute couple Hopefully this project works out for him

Are you guys looking forward to Wonderstruck? Hoping it's at Cannes! Is anyone also looking forward to IT COMES AT NIGHT? I'll always look forward to whatever Todd does, So hell yes I'm looking forward to Wonderstruck. Hoping it premieres at Cannes & wins the Palme, Pedro Almodóvar should make it happen : I just looked up It Comes At Night, Riley Keough in a horror film directed by the director of Krisha, yes please

If only Almodovar was part of Cannes jury in 2015 instead of Dolan...

Do you think that she could possibly be nominated for lead in Una? Because it sort of is a 2017 movie. It could've happened if a stronger studio was distributing the film. If A24 or SPC or FSL was backing it I would say it could happen. But I don't have much faith in the distributor Una has got, so for right now unfortunately I would say no, but if the movie manages to do better and finds an audience like Elle did, and if critics rally behind it the same way, and if she wins one of the critics association awards (NYFCC, LAFCA or NSFC), only then will I say would she have a shot at an Oscar nom for Una. I personally wouldn't expect much. If lucky I could see her picking up some noms for something like Indie Spirit Awards/Gothams or something similar, but that's it (even that only if she has passionate support from audiences and critics). Her real shot at an Oscar nom would either be from Mary Magdalene or A Ghost Story, Leaning more toward Mary. If anything when it comes to awards, films like Una, A Ghost Story, Song to Song will just help and push her more to get a nom for Mary Magdalene. This is just an opinion, mere speculation based on how I've seen these things get played out before. It's going to be interesting to see how it all really turns out in the end.

Just thought I'd ask something. Which Terrance Malick movie should I start with first? (Since Song to Song is coming soon and I haven't seen any of his films)
