Garth "aggressively pursued" the project too.I mean, why???. Money? Everybody has a price. It’s kinda sad, honestly

Oh. Oscars 2023 That Scott movie with M Williams was awful imo. So I’ve a lot of doubts about the script

All the Money in the World ? Ha I think it wasn't that bad really, just solid and forgettable - like 80% of Ridley's films unfortunately.
Honestly, I don't think this project is especially good idea. It would've been much better if they made it in early-to-mid-2000s when historical epics were popular as reborn genre (and when Joaquin looked younger, very resembling the young Bonaparte). Besides, Napoleon's life was so eventful that only 12 part mini-series could do his life a justice. But who knows ? Joaquin obviously see potential in it (and working with Ridley after 20 years could be a fun for both of them) so it might turn out good/ solid at least.
They need a good script, yeah. Scott's movies always heavily depend on it.

Has anyone seen Ammonite yet ? Is it any good ? I've seen a lot user reviews on Letterboxd and it seems nobody likes it; many 3-star reviews and a few with four at best. The rest is underwhelming to bad. Jordan Ruimy (World of Reel) gave it C- yesterday and it was his most anticipated movie of the year. Also, Ehrlich with two-and-a-half-star short (and funny) review from month ago. Doesn't look very promising but it could get some nominations (for Winslet maybe) due to small competition.
No offense to Saoirse but maybe it's a time for her to move on from young emotional feminist-teenage angst-costume drama type of roles and do something else for a change (crime thriller, adult modern drama, Sci-fi or villainous role). It's slowly becoming her comfort zone.
Don't understand the people on movie forums who say that Winslet is overdue for 2nd Oscar. How is she overdue when her filmography since 2008 was mediocre to really bad (except Steve Jobs movie which was good) ? And her recent comments on Woody Allen were cringe-worthy and heavily calculated with a good timing for the start of Oscar season. Seriously, what happened to Kate ? She was almost a magical creature with enormous talent between 1994-2004 ; now, she just come as ordinary and kinda uninteresting, Oscar-bait actress (although still looking good).

Well, in short - based on most reviews till now - Ammonite is poor attempt to reproduce magic of Carol and Portrait of a Lady on Fire in LGBT/lesbian movie genre. See, they even filmed sex scene on Saoirse's birthday😉 Sounds familiar? It will probably make some nominations because awards season will be weaker than ever but in a long term movie is a lost cause. If you ask what the word Ammonite means it seems to be type of fossil, mostly from Jurassic period (the main character Mary Anning - played by Winslet - was palaeontologist and collector).
