Why do you guys think of The Great Gatsby (2013)? I love it sooo much, with all it's flaws, I still think it's near perfect. Roons needs to work with Baz asap, me thinks
I told you already on IMDb. Ultimately flawed and misses some important points from the book but it's spectacular and fun to watch (Bollywood style). I love Carey Mulligan but she was miscast in my opinion; can you imagine Michelle Williams as Daisy (I thought one time about Rooney but when you think about it, she and Leo as a screen couple - it would never have worked; or this is just me ? For some reason they looked like brother and sister to me at the Oscars last year ). No, Rooney would be much more suited to play Jordan Baker, another unobtainable rich girl but more down to earth.
It was nice surprise to see Amitabh Bachchan in cameo role. My favorite piece of music is Green Light theme (not sure if this is on official soundtrack).
As for Rooney working with Baz...Idk, maybe some spectacle set in India ? (I know, I know... )

Of course I remember us going into detail and talking about it at length.I have a shitty memory but I remember that. I just watched it again recently and wanted to know what everyone thought of it in general :) Tobey and Carey were miscast, me thinks. I think someone like Jake Gyllenhaal would've been better. As for Daisy, you know it would be Roons for me. I remember us talking about how perfect she would be for it no matter what others thought. And as for Baz directing a Bollywood style film, then I would want to see it, even more if Rooney is in it, so count me in

Have you seen 1974 version with Robert Redford, Mia Farrow, Bruce Dern and Sam Waterston ? In my opinion it has perfect cast (except Mia Farrow - it seems they never couldn't get Daisy right; Natalie Wood should have been cast).
The same story as 2013 version - another flawed attempt. Compared to great films from 1970s this looks almost like TV movie but it's watchable enough. Dern is MVP of the cast

I tried watching it, couldn't get through it . Mia Farrow completely got me out of it. I'll give it another try. The world didn't feel like the way it was described in the book. The reason I adored Luhrmann's take is because I felt he nailed the feel and the atmosphere of the book in his own quirky way (at least to me he did). The best part of it for me was Dicaprio, Egerton, the music and the cinematography. Apart from that, I agree the rest is a bit flawed. At the very least I think we can agree it's pretty enough to keep the audience engaged.

JACKIE and LION are coming on Blu-Ray in May (on Amazon.Uk). I thought I'll have them on my birthday like CAROL and FURY ROAD last year but alas. I hope extended cut will be available for LION.

I'm a huge Gillian Jacobs fan. Is the second season better? I couldn't stand the whole witch horror tv sub plot of the first season

I still buy lots of Blu-rays because collecting is fun and I like having physical copies of my favorites. It can't be removed from Netflix or other services. Once you buy it, you own it ; it's not like movie companies are going to come to my house and take my DVDs and Blu-Rays away. I love the artwork of Blu-Rays, especially box-sets. With some really interesting extra features. But above all else it is the superior audio and video quality. Physical copies are important to me and will be for a very long time.
Nothing can compare with joy when your favorite movies (new or old) arrive in your mail box. :

Same. I prefer having physical copies too. Nothing's 100% on the internet. And I hate the fact that its slowly taking over entirely.

I stopped buying movies a few years ago. And people also have stopped giving me movies as a gift. The other day, I found Ain’t them bodies saints in the dollar store for $3, i was mad and sad :'( , I was going to buy it just to save it from being between animated movies for toddlers, but then I remembered i don’t own a blu-ray player :lol2: .

Need to catch up on the second season of this. I'm a huge Gillian Jacobs fan. Is the second season better? I couldn't stand the whole witch horror tv sub plot of the first season I liked season 1 because it was so funny and very refreshing, I've only watched 5 episodes of season 2 so far, it is still funny ;) .

This happens to me a lot Whenever I want to buy something it's mostly available on Blu-ray only. DVDs seem to be dying more quickly I guess.

I'm not really sure if this is off-topic or not, but do any of you guys know what Letterbox'd is? A lot of people have it and I'm confused on what it is. Letterboxd is basically a site for film lovers, where you can write reviews, make lists of fav movies, keep track of films you've seen and so on... it's super fun. Why don't you open a thread for this is general discussion. I could share my account link with you over there :)
