There's literally no way Emma is not winning Oscar this year. It's a sure thing. She won every main precursor. I'm rooting for Natalie and Isabelle but it's not gonna happen. Best Actor...that's different story. Casey is big favorite but Denzel won SAG, it will be interesting to watch ceremony. But ultimately, Casey is taking Golden boy this year and deservedly so.

Really bummed Moonlight didn't win a single thing though. Oscar voters being a different set gives me hope that it will be a different situation there. Even if Harvey campaigns harder for Dev now, I still think Mahershala takes it in the end. The most important thing for me is, that I really want Jenkins to upset in directing or at least screenplay, that would be amazing
Mahershala will win Oscar, love for Moonlight is bigger than for Lion across the pond. Jenkins BD upset might happen but don't put too much high hopes in this. Who is favorite for Adapted Screenplay ?
No Oscar for Mica Levi ? Sheesh...

I mean Mahershala is great even in House of Cards and the nicest guy ever. I'm rooting for Manchester in screenplay but I'll happy if anyone less La La Land wins in that category. It's a meh script. And Casey, Academy Winner will be good. The Academy members are so hopeless anyway

Moonlight is placed in adapted at the Oscars (because of that unproduced play) and it's competition is Arrival, Hidden Figures, Fences and Lion. I'd say Moonlight could take this, but again a Lion upset is possible, maybe not so much here but shouldn't rule it out entirely.

Just I saw Hell or High Water. The story is well narrated and acted, it's good to see it but nothing more. I can not believe it´s nominated for Best Picture (I know they've nominated worst movies though) But I'm here to comment on how underrated Ben Foster is. He is a very good actor. Rooney saw him in "Streetcar..." when she met Benedict Andrews for the first time, who was directing him and Gillian Anderson in London. I heard that play was great. I would like to know what Roo thinks about the play but it is impossible :) I hope they still have good vibes after working in Saints

In other news, Jackie remains like an exquisite piece of art. It doesn't need cheap awards. It will have the history of cinema in its side sooner or later.

Jackie is this year's The Master and Carol. Big nomination is missing (and some others too) but it won't matter in the grand scheme of things.

I'm so glad that you're predicting Kubo. It would be so great if it won Are you sure about Toni Erdmann for foreign film? What I've come to realise in these weeks is that not many voters are fond of the film. Elle won at the Globes, BAFTA went to Son of Saul (2015 movie). I think the passion isn't there anymore as much as it was before. I'm a little sceptical but I think The Salesman could take it. Keeping the Muslim ban issue aside, I think there's some genuine love for the film.

Yeah...maybe I'm too much optimistic about it. But my bet is still on it. Is there any other category (except Animated) ready more for small surprise?
Toni Erdmann's awards story reminds me on Carol. Early favorite for Oscar but ultimately nothing. Best critically received film at Cannes festival but robbed for major prize (but Xavier Dolan wins Best director for his poorly received, shitty movie ? Sheesh O_o ).

I'm not too set on LLL for editing. I think Arrival can take this. The film relies on it. Editing's such a big part of the film. Even a slight misstep would've hurt the story and the movie big time, I think. I'm nervous about the acting. I was set on Casey and Mahershala a few days ago, but I'm feeling a bit conflicted about the two categories now Make-up and hair: Lol, It would a a disgrace if Suicide Squad becomes an Oscar winning film :anger2: I think it'll probably go to A Man Called Ove. They nominated this film in foreign language as well. Which makes it seem like they liked it a lot. I think this film could even upset in FL. I'm with you on screenplays though a little skeptical. I'm predicting Manchester to take original, but I'm nervous that LLL could take this. Same for Moonlight and Arrival, Thought Moonlight was a done deal until Arrival came in and won the WGA As for Cannes, I'm still surprised what a baby Dolan was even after winning the fucking thing

I'm for A Man Called Ove in Makeup & Hairstyling. Yep, Suicide Squad would be a little bit embarrassing decision but tbh I wouldn't be very surprised
I have a feeling that Moonlight is safe for Supporting Actor and Adapted Screenplay, especially if Jenkins doesn't win Director. Moonlight must win something big.
Mahershala or Dev ? I know how you feel about this; but we can say that this is Mahershala's to loose and there is generally more love for Moonlight than for Lion (or at least , it seems to me that way). Dev is still young and this is his breakthrough performance. He is now member of the club (House of Commons for start).

i could swear i saw Phyllis Nagy's tweet after BAFTAs (i can't find it now), and it was something like this:
"Carol 9 nominations 0 wins, Moonlight 4 nominations 0 wins, some things never change"
i hope Oscars will prove this^ to be wrong
