Her comments about Rooney are 100% spot on, but the rest even more so. Guy Pearce having no nominations especially got my blood boiling. Dude is a terrific character actor and presence. Steve Buscemi as well. Oscars are all but gratifying movie stars and people with defined screen personalities rather than actual authentic seamless performances.

i could swear i saw Phyllis Nagy's tweet after BAFTAs (i can't find it now), and it was something like this: "Carol 9 nominations 0 wins, Moonlight 4 nominations 0 wins, some things never change" i hope Oscars will prove this^ to be wrong
Christine Vachon's tweet after last year's BAFTA was heartbreaking.

While he was never actor with great range Wahlberg deserved nomination for Boogie Nights (1997). His performance was pitch-perfect.

Also, there are two group of actors (most of them talented obviously) - 1) The ones who play Hollywood/Oscar game to perfection (with mighty PR, campaigning like crazy) and 2) The others, more relaxed who don't give a f*** and are interested only in their job
What do you think which group will end up with more awards ?

Best Picture - La La Land
Director - Damien Chazelle (or Barry Jenkins)
Actor - Casey Affleck
Actress - Emma Stone
Supporting Actor - Mahershala Ali
Supporting Actress - Viola Davis
Adapted Screenplay - Moonlight (or Arrival)
Original Screenplay - Manchester by the Sea
Animated Feature - Kubo and the Two Strings (there, I said it ! : )
Foreign Film - Toni Erdmann
Original Score - La La Land (Jackie will be robbed here :anger2: )
Cinematography - La La Land (or Moonlight)
Production Design - La La Land
Costume Design - Jackie (I know this will not happen but...)
Makeup and Hairstyling - (Suicide Squad ? :confuse: )
Editing - La La Land
Don't know about some technical awards, it's not important enough to me.
Jackie will be 100% robbed. Mica Levi's score is fantastic, it leaves such an impact on certain scenes. I really wish Nat Sanders & Joi McMillion would win the Oscar for Best Editing. I'm rooting for Huppert or Portman for Best Actress. Sure, Emma was good in LA LA LAND, but I wasn't blown away.
I also want with all my heart Portman and Huppert to win but alas, you know that's not going to happen. Jackie and Elle aren't loved enough by the voters, especially compared to La La Land. Emma has momentum, Natalie and Isabelle not. Unfortunately. And Mica Levi's chances...there was some hope a couple of weeks ago but I'm not optimist anymore.

Natalie doesn't seem to be attending the Oscars  I think it's good anyway, she's pregnant, she isn't winning, might as well just watch the Oscars comfortably from home.

Moonlight is winning everything in Indie Spirit (not surprised) and you guys should watch American Honey, it's such a quality ride. Take it. It's in Netflix and Riley K "the next Rooney Mara" is there as plus.
Other People is a nice one too

Yeah...tell that to Rooney last year
Jesus...
:lol2:
Wow...many of them hate Arrival so much (when you think about it it's not a surprise that they didn't "get" the movie right). And they love Lion more than I expected which is a good thing :) You also have to wonder how Meryl got that nomination. OK at least someone of them appreciate Natalie's and Mica's work.
All in all, this sums up pretty much the way of thinking of average Academy member. And obviously, many of them are ancient, completely out of touch with modern filmmaking.
Perhaps it's a time for someone to be brutally honest with them again. Joaquin was four years ago.

The guy/gal who describes Casey's performance in Manchester as 'mumble, mumble, mumble' is a fucking idiot. I really want to know who these people are, If I'm not mistaken last year someone in one of these 'brutally honest ballots' said something shit about Roons :anger2:

You're correct. One of the idiots said that Rooney couldn't act and that Carol is awful movie.
If we live in the XIX century, I would have challenged that ignoramus to a duel (pistols, swords or something else :fight1: )
You can't reason with stupid people
