RedSparrow , what do you think of my list (updated yesterday):
link
HM - Toni Erdmann, Patterson, The Assassin
Some very good are missing because my movie lists are usually "Top 32" (my lucky number). It's always painful to remove 5-6 excellent films every year to include something new but what to do . In 2019/2020 when this list is finally complete maybe the order will look something different. Time will tell.
(I wonder which group I'll remove next year in this time. Need some free space for Song to Song (please be good), Untitled PTA and Vox Lux :) ; and some others too)
I'd like to see your personal list (at least top ten) but it's totally OK if you aren't interested in the movie ranking. To be honest, I don't consider 31. movie from my list much weaker than 11. one. Just small nuances and personal preference (with some degree of objectivity of course).
And you guys also...
I got inspiration from you and I did another list :) MY FAVORITES FILMS of 2000s 38. Oslo, August 31st. (Jacohim Trier) 37. Head On.(F Akin) 36. Personal Velocity. ( R. Miller) 35. My Life Without Me. (Coixet) 34. Dancer in the Dark ( Lars Von Trier) 33. The Station Agent (Tom McCarthy) 32. Memento (Nolan) 31. We Don't Live Here Anymore (J. Curran) 30. The Pledge (Sean Penn) 29. Notes On Scandal. (Eyre) 28. Juno. (J. Reitman) 27. I'm Not There. (Haynes) 26. Once. (John Carney) 25. The Hours. (Daldry) 23. Revolutionary Road. (Mendes) 22. In America. Do you guys know when the Tribeca line up is suppose to be announced? It hasn't come out this week and by now it's normally released. I googled and it looks like last year it was March 2nd. So I guess you can expect it any day now.

I see people want to discuss Casey's sexual harassment allegations. So you can discuss it here in the new thread I've just created without going OT on different threads :) I've moved a couple of posts from here as well. Cheers.

:lol2: The list would be very different if it had been made in 2009. It is very interesting (and somewhat sad) to see how many movies I loved at the time did not pass the test of time. A lot of movies no longer resonate in me in the same way today. That's the case of Children of Men and Far From Heaven (despite its masterful cinematography). I do not like MD. My favorite Lynch movies are from other decades. There Will Be Blood should be there but PT Anderson is our Meryl Streep does not need more nominations, is always good :) PS: I hope Roo, Joaquin and PT have many vegan dinners together

Indeed And it needs to happen soon !
sethan my 2000s Top 10 would be something like this:
01. There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson) 02. Mulholland Drive (David Lynch) 03. LOTR trilogy (Peter Jackson) 04. Children of Men (Alfonso Cuaron) 05. No Country for Old Men (The Coen brothers) 06. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Michel Gondry) 07. The White Ribbon (Michael Haneke) 08. Pan's Labyrinth (Guillermo del Toro) 09. Lost in Translation (Sofia Coppola) 10. Brokeback Mountain (Ang Lee)
I have my "Top 32" lists on IMDb for every decade (from 1920s to 2010s) but many of them need update. It's always fun to make lists such as this.

Has anyone read the book Brain on Fire? I only read it because the movie that was coming out, it stars Chloe Moretz, Jenny Slate, Thomas Mann, Tyler Perry, (it was even produced by Charlize Theron), it was at TIFF, but got really bad reviews. Broad Green was suppose to distribute it, but sold it to Netflix. I'm really disappointed in it by it's trailer, it doesn't look too good. It's a shame. I haven't read the book, but I did see the trailer a while back. Boy did it look bad, a bit unintentionally funny too. I like Moretz. She was good in Sils Maria and Let Me In. I hope she picks projects more carefully.

The book was so good and it just is horrible the film adaption is that. :cry2: :cry1: How did you get around to reading it? Are you a Moretz fan?

Mungiu OMG, I thought I was the only one having Once as fav I loved it and I loved the music. I bought the soundtrack, and became a fan of the band they formed. I’m still sad they are not making music together anymore, I find that each of them are talented but when they play together magic happens, even the covers they make sound much better than the originals. I was so happy with the soundtrack, that I started to buy more to gift them, even an ex-boyfriend received one and he loved it. A few years ago, I went to a Markéta concert and she signed my CD, not the Once one because I forgot to put it on my purse but her first solo CD. I remembered last Sunday while watching the Oscars that I actually have the sign from an Oscar winner. I’ve also went to Broadway to watch the Once adaptation, I loved it.

Speaking of Once, has anyone scene Begin Again? Love that film. For me, It lucks the magic of Once. The thing that made Once what so special, was the heart felt music composed by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. Directors seem to do more genuine stuff with less money before making it to Hollywood :( .

Has anyone seen THE HANDMAIDEN? I've seen a lot of people talking about it, I think it got a lot of buzz at Cannes? (Is that the right festival it premiered at?) Is it good? Worth checking out? Yes, it premiered in Cannes. Haven't seen it though. I've heard the production design is excellent.
