The Last Duel flopped terribly at box-office. It seems no one would turn to watch drama for adults (even in the shape of historical spectacle) when you have franchise movies (James Bond, Halloween, Venom) around. Potential audience - people over 30 - are unwilling to go to theaters in big numbers in post-COVID world.
Maybe bad sign for Nightmare Alley also. It opens on the same day as new Spider-Man flick. And it's exactly a kind of movie which flops in theaters nowdays - a non-franchise, adult-oriented drama. In that case Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated actors and director usually won't bring many asses in theaters.
Do we know the budget for NA ?
(Sorry for the vulgar language).

Couldn’t find the budget, but I’m guessing no more than 30-40 mil? Or could it be more and I’m going by 2013 standards still? As for the flopping bit, looking at the current climate it’s possible, but hopefully with critics on its side the film can possibly sail through.

But lot of good reviewed movies are not imune from flopping either 🤫 Still think that non-showing on the festivals was a mistake. Of course, it wasn't ready but if the movie is good it would've been of much help for movie's anticipation (among average moviegoers and potential audience) and awards prospects. They are still high, for sure but if most people won't show up when they are needed... I think budget migh be even between 50-70 mil 😕 but perhaps I'm exaggerating it. From the teaser it looked expensive.

Mixed feelings about Garth Davis doing an environmentalist hipster thing that looks like a thriller (without Rooney) :)

Florence Pugh has the same publicist as Rooney who as you can see is truly FANTASTIC in her job. She has worked in a month with Florence more than in Rooney's entire career.

Is that the same publicist from 2011-2016 period (woman who was always beside her on red carpets/events) ? Or is someone else now? Do you think on this Olivia Wilde-Harry Styles-Don't Worry Darling media circus? Ha, that's something else...

I think Florence is A TALENT tho I really liked Don't Worry Darling trailer. Looked very interesting and involving. I'm always for these "1950s suburban" dramas with "something lurking beneath". It seems movie isn't very good. In the hands of better and more experienced director it could have been. Flo has that other movie 'The Wonder' and she is popular. Maybe she'll even make it.

I’m rooting for Olivia as filmmaker anyway because I loved Booksmart when I saw it in theaters and she has something special. I haven’t revisited yet. I don’t know everything about the situation but I feel it’s unfair for both. You know, male director do “bad” things all the time and it’s not like this….Maybe DONT WORRY is good. I think the reception of the film is contaminated so far. Time will tell

BLONDE is polarising critics right now.
80 on RT 63 on MC
And that's a good sign that Dominik delivered exactly what he promised! ✌️ I literally cannot wait to see it.
